Camping in Venice is becoming increasingly popular. Instead of staying in a crowded hotel, guests spend the night on a beautifully situated campsite on the beach. The sights and magnificent buildings of the famous lagoon city are easily accessible by water bus. Walks on the beach and excursions into the Venice lagoon provide the perfect contrast to sightseeing in the city.

Special features of camping in Veneto

Located in north-east Italy, the camper paradise of Veneto stretches from the Dolomites to the Adriatic Sea. Italy is not one of the most popular holiday destinations for campers for nothing: with unique landscapes, partly unspoilt beaches and plenty of culture, the region is the perfect holiday destination. Many of the campsites are located directly or in the immediate vicinity of Lake Garda, the largest and most beautiful lake in Italy, or by the sea - ideal conditions for an exuberant beach holiday with the whole family.

Those interested in culture will not miss out in Veneto either: the sophisticated cosmopolitan city of Venice is the capital of this region and delights visitors from all over the world with its narrow alleyways, extraordinary canals and unique Gothic architecture.

Campsites in Veneto

The campsites in the region guarantee a relaxing stay on the Adriatic coast. They are particularly impressive due to their location close to the sea and offer a wide range of leisure activities. Bike hire for tours in the surrounding area, playgrounds for children, sports programmes and water sports courses enrich the daily lives of campers. When it comes to facilities, most campsites leave nothing to be desired. Washing machines, tumble dryers and modern sanitary facilities are just as much a matter of course as marvellous pitches close to the sandy beach.

How to get to Venice

Travelling to Veneto from the neighbouring countries of Slovenia, Austria and Germany is uncomplicated. If you are travelling to Venice by caravan or motorhome, you can expect a quick and easy journey. The car journey also promises picturesque views of the surrounding countryside and reveals the natural beauty of Italy as soon as you arrive.

The distance between Munich and Venice is around 450 kilometres and can be covered in one day. The route usually takes you via the A22 Brenner motorway and then towards Italy. The dense European motorway network is well developed and makes the journey easier.

From Munich, the quickest route leads past Rosenheim and through the Austrian state of Innsbruck. Then follow the A22 motorway across the border to Italy. From the Italian border, it doesn't take long to reach the destination of Veneto.

In the peak season, i.e. in the summer months of July and August, there may be increased traffic volumes or longer traffic jams when travelling to northern Italy. Venice itself is car-free. Water buses (vaporetti) are used to get around the lagoon and the city.

The most beautiful destinations in Venice and Veneto

Magnificent architecture, azure waters and lively cities - there are many varied places in Veneto that are just waiting to be discovered. The region in north-eastern Italy stretches from the Dolomites to the Adriatic Sea and offers many opportunities to spend an exciting camping holiday.

Venice

Venice with its picturesque lagoon attracts countless visitors from all over the world year after year. The city enchants with its legendary old town, where architecturally significant buildings such as St Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace are grouped around the world-famous St Mark's Square, and many restaurants and cafés invite you to linger. The magnificent Renaissance and Baroque palaces bear witness to the metropolis' former trading power and invite visitors to explore the city at length.

One of the main attractions is the baroque domed church of Santa Maria della Salute in the student district of Dorsoduro at the entrance to the Grand Canal. The church is one of two churches in Venice that were built on the occasion of a plague epidemic in the city. Dorsoduro is also home to the famous Campo Santa Margherita and many souvenir shops where you can buy the famous masks of Venice.

Exploring the lagoon city by water is particularly attractive. Visitors can discover the tranquil canals on a gondola ride and marvel at the famous Rialto Bridge from up close. You should also make a stopover at the famous Rialto Market, next door to the traditional fish market. The whole of Venice and its lagoon are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Culture lovers will be amazed by the abundance of sights, historic buildings and photo opportunities.

Venice lagoon

The campsites on the Cavallino-Treporti headland offer excursions and boat trips into the Venice lagoon. This unique landscape is characterised by salt marshes, dunes and small fishing villages. Active holidaymakers can also explore the lagoon on their own in a kayak.

Murano and Burano

One of the most famous islands in the Venice lagoon is Murano. This is the centre of Venetian glassblowing. Visitors can follow in the footsteps of the centuries-old tradition at the Murano Glass Museum. The journey to Murano is by vaporetto. The island of Burano is also worth a visit. The "little sister of Venice" is known above all for its colourful fishermen's houses and the many cosy fish restaurants.

Lake Garda

Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy and is characterised by crystal-clear water and unique Mediterranean vegetation against a beautiful Alpine mountain backdrop. Whether you are an active holidaymaker or a beach holidaymaker, there is something for everyone here. Water sports enthusiasts will find numerous exciting activities around the lake, such as diving and windsurfing. Sailing schools also offer courses for beginners.
