The Cavallino-Treporti headland is in a dream location between the Venice lagoon to the north and the Adriatic Sea to the south. With its long golden sandy beach, vast pine forests, dunes and fascinating lagoon landscape, the coastal strip is the perfect destination for a camping holiday in an enchanting natural setting right by the sea. Pincamp presents the best campsites in Cavallino-Treporti and provides you with all the important information for your next camping trip.
The approximately 12 km long, beautiful sandy beach of the Cavallino-Treporti peninsula runs between the seaside resort of Lido di Jesolo in the east and the ferry harbour of Punta Sabbioni in the west, from where you can quickly reach Venice. Most of the campsites on the headland are located directly on this beach on the Adriatic coast: just the right location for a varied beach holiday under the warming rays of the Italian sun.
Nestled in the natural landscape, the campsites are right on the beach and just a few steps from the sea. As the region is an extremely popular holiday destination, the facilities are usually very large and sometimes resemble small towns. Families with children are the clear target group for the campsites in Cavallino-Treporti. Some of the campsites have their own beach access, extensive water parks, wellness pools or heated pools.
As is usual in Italy, there is usually an extensive range of sports activities in and around the water. In the high season, there is usually a children's entertainment programme with miniclubs for the little ones. Dogs are also welcome at most campsites, and there are designated beach areas for dogs on the headland. Another plus: the beach is usually shallow, so the youngest camping guests can splash around and build sandcastles to their heart's content.
A wide range of 2-star to 5-star campsites are available for your stay.
Below we present 5 recommended campsites in Cavallino-Treporti. These sites are characterised by their beautiful location, good service and excellent value for money.
One of the best-known and most popular holiday villages in Cavallino-Treporti. The main attraction is the huge pool area with water park, lagoon, grotto and a wide range of wellness facilities. There is a separate children's lagoon with a water slide for the little ones, while dog owners will be delighted with the special beach section for dogs. There are various restaurants and shopping facilities on site.
This environmentally friendly 4-star campsite is mainly powered by solar energy and is surrounded by pines and fragrant olive trees with private beach access. In addition to pitches for motorhomes and caravans, there are also a number of cosy mobile homes with their own terrace. The campsite offers a daily entertainment programme, a mini-golf course and a children's playground.
Just a row of dunes from the Adriatic Sea, this beautiful campsite is situated on a long beach of fine sand. There are two pool areas for families, one of which is ideal for children, who can let off steam on the pirate ship. You can stock up on provisions in the well-stocked supermarket, and in high season the entertainment programme and children's disco ensure that there is never a dull moment. Unfortunately, WLAN is only available for a fee.
Beautiful and not too large holiday village that still offers every comfort. There are basic pitches and pitches for maxi-caravans, and you can also stay in mobile homes or bungalows. There are several water slides in the pool area and if the weather doesn't play ball, the indoor pool is waiting for you. The restaurant is highly recommended, only the sanitary facilities are a little dated.
To describe this 5-star campsite as a holiday village would be an understatement - holiday town is more like it. The spacious pitches are located on a soft grassy area in the shade of maritime pines, which are typical of the coastal strip. All pitches have electricity and water connections, and those who want something a little more luxurious can stay in a mobile home or bungalow. The highlight here is also the water park with various pool areas, slides, fountains and whirlpools.
Dogs are allowed at most campsites in Cavallino Treporti. Nevertheless, please enquire before your trip whether there are any special rules, for example if you want to take your four-legged friend with you to your mobile home. Many campsites also offer separate dog areas where you can walk your four-legged friend. You can usually find the relevant information on the campsite website.
Things get a little trickier if you want to take your dog with you to the beach at Cavallino Treporti. This is not permitted everywhere. However, there are four separate dog areas on the headland: - Punta Sabbioni with access from Lungomare Dante Alighieri - Ca' Savio, with access from Via Retrone - Ca' Ballarin, with access from Via G. Berton - Ca' di Valle-Cavallino, with access from Via Tamigi
On these stretches of beach, you are allowed to walk your pets on the beach and let them play in the water. However, dogs must always be kept on a lead. According to the regulations, the maximum length of the leash is 1.50 metres
Make sure that dogs do not approach the dunes - this could disturb the seabirds that live there. Access to the beach sections may be prohibited at times for reasons of protection. It is best to find out what the current rules are on site.
Cavallino-Treporti is located in the northern part of Italy and can therefore be reached relatively quickly by motorhome from Germany. The journey from Munich is around 560 km, from Frankfurt am Main around 950 km and from Berlin just under 1,100 km.
The quickest way to get to your holiday destination is to take the A8, A10, A23 and A4/E70 motorways and drive through Austria. On the A4 motorway, take the S. Dona'-Noventa exit in the direction of Venice - from here it is only 37 km to travel.
If you also want to experience a wonderful natural landscape during your journey, choose the route via the A13 Brenner motorway. This leads from Innsbruck over the Brenner Pass and then joins the Italian A22 motorway. From Verona, change to the A4 motorway and then follow the signs towards Venice. If you take the exit at Via Triestina, you still have just under 45 kilometres to cover on the SS14.
The Brenner motorway is a really beautiful route if you have a little more time. The route leads along wooded mountain slopes, extensive meadows and idyllic villages. Good to know: There are a total of 27 rest stops between the pass and Venice where you can take a break along the way. One of the most popular is the Sirio-Grill Trens Ovest. The rest stop is known for its cosy atmosphere and delicious cappuccino, which tastes just like in Rome.
The fascinating natural landscape of the lagoon and the coastal strip is not only ideal for hiking and cycling on summer days. There are also a number of beautiful excursion destinations in the surrounding area. The most popular is certainly Venice with its countless famous sights.
Hire a bike (most campsites have a bike hire service) or set off on foot to explore the landscape along the lagoon canals. The path from the village of Treporti to Lio Piccolo is particularly beautiful. The route is just under 12 kilometres long, is asphalted and therefore very easy to cycle along the green embankments of the Valle Zanella valley. On the way, you will pass the small church of Santissima Trinità in Treporti, the historic Corte del Prà estate and the glamorous Zanella country villa in Saccagnana. Finally, you reach your destination: the picturesque village of Lio Picollo, which is nestled in a magical lagoon landscape with romantic lakes. Our tip: Avoid the route on public holidays, as it gets quite crowded.
Venice is only a stone's throw away and is ideal for a day trip. Simply use the bus and boat connections that depart regularly from Cavallino-Treporti. In just under an hour, you will be on the Lido di Venezia and can marvel at St Mark's Square with its street artists and the famous cathedral.
From there, you can easily reach the countless sights of the lagoon city on foot, including the magnificent Doge's Palace, the interesting Civic Museum of Venice and the impressive church of San Moisè. Alternatively, you can simply stroll through the narrow, winding streets and be surprised where you end up. There are countless cosy cafés and restaurants for a relaxing break.
Even if you prefer to eat from your own campsite kitchen, you should also try out some of the local specialities during your camping trip. The cuisine around the campsites in Cavallino-Treporti is predominantly characterised by Venetian traditions. The Adriatic Sea and the lagoon provide locals and holidaymakers alike with fresh fish and other tasty seafood. Locally grown vegetables such as asparagus, artichokes and red radicchio are also on the menu.
As Veneto is one of the best wine regions in Italy, the wineries in the area produce delicious wines, including the popular Bardolino or the light Chiaretto. This goes very well with carpaccio. This culinary highlight consists of wafer-thin slices of raw beef with lemon juice and Parmesan cheese and is a real treat for the palate. The pasta e fagioli stew is also delicious. This meal consists of thick macaroni, beans, plenty of olive oil and savoury herbs.
Thanks to the Mediterranean climate of the Adriatic, you can theoretically camp in Cavallino-Treporti all year round. In practice, however, many holidaymakers come here to swim and relax on the beach. For sun worshippers, the months of June to September are therefore the ideal time to visit. The maximum temperatures during this period are 25 to 27 degrees Celsius and the water is pleasantly warm at 22 to 24 degrees Celsius. In the months of April and October, i.e. the low season, it is much cooler with average highs of 17 and 18 degrees Celsius, but still pleasant for long walks on the beach and hikes.
In general, you can expect many hours of sunshine and little rainfall in this region of the Mediterranean. The driest month is September. Winters are generally quite mild - temperatures below freezing are not to be feared.
