"Camping with a dream view of the lake, picturesque natural bathing beaches and countless beautiful pitches right on the shore: the Lake Constance region is one of the most beautiful places to spend a relaxing camping holiday by the water. In addition to the fantastic campsites on the shore, Germany's largest lake also offers many leisure activities for swimmers and water sports enthusiasts. Enchanting places such as Constance, Lindau or the flower island of Mainau also make Lake Constance a favourite destination for families with children.
Lake Constance is the largest lake in Germany and is located in the four-country region between Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The lake consists of two parts: the Untersee and the much larger Obersee with the Überlingersee, which is also known as the Rheinsee. The German side is located in the federal state of Bavaria, which is also where most of the campsites on Lake Constance are located .
Some of the most beautiful campsites are located on Untersee. Here, campers can look forward to extensive natural bathing beaches, vast green meadows and idyllic pitches. The Überlingersee offers proximity to the popular flower island of Mainau, while the campsites on the Obersee are concentrated around the popular holiday resorts of Friedrichshafen and Lindau. Practical for campers: thanks to passenger steamers, all the larger towns between Überlingen and Bregenz on the eastern shore can be easily reached by boat from Schaffhausen to the Rhine Falls.
In addition to the tourist sites, there are also a number of campsites for permanent campers on Lake Constance, which are very popular thanks to the mild climate. Many campsites offer cyclists' cabins for campers who want to explore the beautiful Lake Constance landscape on two wheels. A camping holiday with a dog is also easily possible on Lake Constance, as pets are allowed on most campsites. Popular dog beaches on Lake Constance are located at Schmugglerbucht, on the Seerhein in Constance, in Toskanapark in Lindau and at the bathing area between Unteruhldingen and Meersburg.
The standard of campsites on Lake Constance is high. In addition to spacious pitches on grassy areas, rental accommodation and mobile homes are often offered. Tent pitches in lakeside locations are also very popular, especially in summer. Some campsites have also committed themselves to ecocamping and offer a particularly natural camping experience.
The Campingplatz am See campsite in Allensbach impresses guests with its modern facilities, wonderful pitches and comfortable rental accommodation. The family-friendly site has a children's playground, children's sanitary facilities and entertainment, as well as beach volleyball, boat hire, a snack bar and covered cooking facilities. Dogs and other pets are welcome guests at Allensbach.
Camping Klausenhorn in Konstanz-Dingelsdorf directly on the shores of Lake Constance promises wonderful days and, as an ecocamping-certified site, a particularly natural camping holiday. Guests can hire canoes at the nearby Wallhausen lido, go on day trips or excursions or take advantage of the wide range of sports on offer, including beach volleyball courts, table tennis and yoga. The extensive facilities include unusual accommodation options such as sleeping barrels. The pitches with a view of the lake are particularly popular at the Klausenhorn campsite.
The beautiful 4-star Iriswiese campsite is located directly on the shores of Lake Constance in a nature reserve between Lindau and Friedrichshafen and offers everything you need for a relaxing camping holiday by the lake: spacious pitches, a well-kept natural beach directly on the site, a restaurant and supermarket and a wide range of leisure activities. Dogs are allowed at the Iriswiese campsite and there is also a separate section of beach where four-legged friends are allowed in the water.
The beautiful Gitzenweiler Hof campsite is located on the outskirts of the island town of Lindau and is a real paradise, especially for families. An adventure playground, a petting zoo and a pony farm ensure unforgettable experiences for the youngest guests. You can also paddle on the GITZ's own canoe pond. The marvellous surroundings are perfect for long walks and hikes.
Three German-speaking countries share the shores of Lake Constance. Accordingly, there is a wide range of excursion destinations which, together with the mild climate, attract sun-seeking holidaymakers from all over Europe. Constance, the largest city on Lake Constance, offers a beautiful old town and is the perfect destination for families. Friedrichshafen is primarily known for its long aviation history, but also has a great lakeside promenade. And then there is the Principality of Liechtenstein, which is unjustly overshadowed by its better-known neighbours .
For romantics, the region of Constance is an ideal destination for camping on Lake Constance. The largest city on Lake Constance combines tradition and modernity and offers a beautiful old town, dozens of shops and many great sights. Constance Minster with its façade dating back several eras, the enchanting city garden and the Rhine Tower form the backdrop for atmospheric days on Lake Constance.
The two towers of the castle church in Friedrichshafen look particularly impressive when viewed from Lake Constance. Technology enthusiasts head straight to the airport, where modern airships take off on a sightseeing flight over Lake Constance and the Dornier Zeppelin Museum presents German aviation history. South of Friedrichshafen, the island of Lindau in Lake Constance is popular with families. Between Lindau harbour and the Hexenstein and along the dam, the 1.4 km long beach offers unadulterated bathing fun in Lake Constance. Bregenz to the south is already in Austria. If you are travelling to Lake Constance for winter camping, you can take the cable car to the summit of the Pfänder to enjoy alpine sports or simply the snowy splendour.
The Principality of Liechtenstein is one of the least visited holiday destinations in the world. Wrongly so - and a camping holiday on Lake Constance is the perfect opportunity to change that. The Alpine monarchy is the sixth smallest country in the world and measures just 12 kilometres at its widest point - perfect for a day trip. The mini-state offers great diversity in the smallest of spaces. In addition to the pretty capital of Vaduz, the numerous castles and palaces set against a marvellous Alpine backdrop are particularly worth seeing.
If you have a little more time, you can use Lake Constance as a starting point for an extended road trip in a motorhome. A great option is the Alpine Road, which leads from Lindau on Lake Constance to Königssee and takes in Bavaria's most beautiful sights along the way. Over 450 kilometres, you drive through the heavenly Allgäu, the Zugspitze region around Garmisch-Partenkirchen, past Lake Chiemsee with its fairytale castles to the enchanting Königssee in Berchtesgadener Land with its mighty mountain peaks. A real dream tour in some of the most beautiful landscapes in Germany!
