The picturesque Pustertal Valley lies to the west-east on the Italian-Austrian border, nestled in the mountain landscape of the Dolomites. Lush alpine meadows and deep forests characterise the green valley, which offers plenty of leisure opportunities for those seeking peace and quiet, nature lovers, pleasure-seekers and culture vultures. Of course, camping in the mountains also stands for both relaxing and challenging hikes. The well-developed network of paths leads active holidaymakers along fascinating viewpoints to high peaks - in the middle of a protected natural paradise.
Meadows and forests, lakes and gently babbling brooks, magnificent castles and picturesque Alpine villages: Campsites in Val Pusteria/Pustertal are surrounded by pure idyll. Situated right at the foot of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Val Pusteria/Pustertal allows you to explore the extraordinary mountain world, for example with challenging climbs to the mountain peaks or easy walks with children to wild and romantic mountain lakes.
But whether it's mountaineering, climbing and mountain biking in summer or skiing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter: In Val Pusteria/Pustertal, every holidaymaker will find a wide range of leisure activities. These also include trips to the Messner Mountain Museum at six locations, shopping in Bruneck, the main town in the Pustertal Valley, or swimming with the children in leisure parks such as the Acquafun adventure pool in Innichen.
Spring arrives relatively late in Val Pusteria/Pustertal: there is still snow until well into April. But as temperatures rise, the yellow dandelions begin to cover the green meadows. Summers are warm and sunny, with average highs of up to 23 degrees Celsius between June and August. However, it is often much cooler on the mountain ranges, so a jacket should always be in your hiking pack.
In September and October, the colourful autumn in Val Pusteria/Pustertal comes into its own, with temperatures dropping quickly: snowfall can be expected from November onwards. Winter equipment is then particularly important for camping vehicles. The weather can sometimes change quickly in the mountain region, but stable weather can usually be expected during the main summer and winter seasons.
