The Kattegat is a small inland sea between Denmark and Sweden that separates the Baltic Sea from the North Sea. Holidaymakers can enjoy excellent sailing and surfing in the region. The Danish beaches of Zealand and Jutland in particular are excellent places to relax at the campsites on the Kattegat.
There is a huge choice of campsites on the Kattegat. Travellers are drawn to the northern shore of the island of Zealand and the east coast of the Jutland peninsula. There are numerous beaches here where campers can settle down in a beach chair and take a dip in the water. The Kattegat is also considered a top area for taking up sports such as sailing and surfing.
Culture vultures can visit ancient harbour towns such as Aarhus on the Kattegat. The municipality is characterised by its rich cultural heritage and Nordic centre. Excursions through the dunes and heathland around Fredrikshavn are tempting. The Hirsholmene Islands and the island of Læsø are easily accessible by boat.
Camping holidays on the Danish Baltic coast are perfect between May and October. If you fancy a swim, you should choose the months of July and August. Then the water is up to 18 degrees Celsius and tempts you to jump into the cool water. Outside temperatures in midsummer are around 22 degrees Celsius.
In spring and autumn, many campers and holidaymakers turn their attention to activities on land. With maximum temperatures between 12 and 17 degrees Celsius, hiking, cycling and horse riding are great fun. The winds are also favourable for taking to the waves in a sailing boat or on a surfboard. The Kattegat has the lowest probability of rain in May.
