PiNCAMP interview with the campsite manager
Exclusive information you won't find anywhere else.
1- How would you describe the atmosphere at your campsite in the morning, in the afternoon and in the evening?
Morning: Calm and maritime. Fresh rolls smell, seagulls circle over the water and guests enjoy their first coffee in the morning sun. Afternoon: Life is bustling. Kiters surf on the Burger Binnensee, children laugh, golfers start their round and pure holiday joy reigns everywhere. Evening: At sunset over the Baltic Sea, people meet in restaurants, enjoy cocktails or attend daily live events with good music.
2- Is there a local product guests take home as a souvenir?
Our mascot Wulfi is the undisputed favourite. He is available in various sizes in the leisure shop, but particularly popular is the option to stuff your own Wulfi in the children's animation. For many children, he is as much a part of their holiday as the beach and the sea.
3- Is there anything else you want to tell us?
We want to be a holiday destination for everyone. Whether backpackers with trekking tents, campervan travellers, families with caravans, motorhome holidaymakers or guests in our apartments or hotel – everyone finds their place with us. What connects our guests is the joy of nature, water, movement, and genuine hospitality. Many do not just come to us once, but accompany Wulfener Hals for decades and often even across multiple generations.
4- Is there a place where children make new friends especially easily?
Definitely in our children's entertainment, on the playgrounds and by the heated outdoor pool. As soon as the daily program starts, the playgrounds fill up or children play together in the water, it usually only takes a few minutes for new friendships to form. When baking stick bread at the campfire, at the children's discos or the big evening shows, real holiday cliques often develop, who meet up with us year after year.
5- Is there a situation where you repeatedly realize: "this is exactly why we do what we do"?
Always when former children return – now as parents themselves. Many tell us how they learned to surf, built sandcastles, or experienced their first holidays without parents with us. Years later, they stand at our reception with their own children and want to give them exactly these memories. To experience how holiday memories are passed down through generations is something very special for us.
6- Is there a story of the campsites history you enjoy telling your guests?
Over six decades ago, it all began with a small, natural campsite directly on the Baltic Sea. With much courage, innovation, and genuine passion, it gradually developed into one of Europe's most modern and multi-award-winning holiday parks. Despite all the developments, the family character has been preserved to this day – and at the same time, we consistently invest in the future and sustainability.
7- What is the most spectacular accommodation you have on your site?
Our beach bungalow in a fantastic secluded location directly by the water. It is situated right on the Baltic Sea and offers an incomparable view of the sea. Many guests even know the house from the popular NDR crime series “Nord bei Nordwest”, where it was featured multiple times as a filming location.
8- What is typical of your campsite, but difficult to explain on photos?
The feeling of freedom. Due to its special location on the headland, the water is visible almost everywhere. You feel the wind, smell the salty Baltic Sea air, and constantly experience the vastness of the landscape. This feeling of taking a deep breath and leaving everyday life behind cannot be fully conveyed by any photo.
9- What makes your site different and stand out from other campsites nearby?
Unique combination: Directly on site, you will find surf, kite, and diving schools, an 18-hole golf course including a driving range, diverse restaurants, and the new Hotel Golf'n Wave Aktivresort. Complemented by a strong event program with over 50 live acts per season, a house band, entertainment, and a prime waterfront location, our resort offers varied sports and leisure opportunities. Here, every guest finds exactly their type of holiday.
10- What should guests not miss—even if it’s not mentioned in any travel guide?
A walk along the cliffs of Wulfen at dusk. When the day tourists have long gone, it becomes completely quiet. Or sit with a blanket at the tip of our headland and watch the last kitesurfers glide silently over the golden water as the sun slowly sets.
11- Which encounter between guests has stayed particularly memorable for you?
Many friendships are formed here through shared hobbies. Golfers spontaneously arrange a round, surfers help beginners with their first attempts on the water, and families sit together in the evening with a cool drink on the event terrace. It's not uncommon for long-lasting friendships to develop from this, with families meeting again at Wulfener Hals every year.
12- Which regional food or drink should guests absolutely try?
Freshly caught Baltic Sea fish, regional specialties from the farms of Fehmarn island, and high-quality meat from the region are an absolute must. After a day on the water or on the golf course, a cool North German beer or a glass of wine on our terrace with a view of the sunset tastes particularly good with it.
13- Which spot on your campsite makes guests say “WOW”?
Clearly our unique location. Wulfener Hals is situated on a narrow headland and is surrounded by water on three sides. On one side, the Baltic Sea glistens, on the other, the Burger Binnensee with its colourful kites and sails. In between, our golf course stretches out with views of the Fehmarnsund Bridge. Many guests stop upon arrival, enjoy the view and say: “We’ve never seen anything like this before.”
14- Which story do children tell when they are back from holiday?
Many proudly say: “I learned to surf!” or “I stood on a kiteboard for the first time.” Others rave about the children’s disco, the evening shows, or about dancing with our mascot Wulfi and taking a souvenir photo. It’s also particularly popular to stuff your own Wulfi in our children's animation.
15- Which strength of your campsite is often underestimated online?
Many guests expect simple snack bar food at a campsite. They are all the more surprised by our gastronomic diversity with several great restaurants and high culinary quality. Our daily evening program is also underestimated: from just before Easter until the end of October, we offer live music, shows, or other events almost every evening.

Beach a disaster

The beach was a disaster, full of algae and sea grass. We drove 8 km further to the south beach, which was great. The campsite itself was very unkempt. There was a plague of pigeons, everything was covered in droppings. Not a corner without pigeons, no matter where you were. The sanitary facilities were clean. The evening entertainment was alright. I would not recommend this campsite.

Overpriced Campsite

To start with the good news, the sanitary facilities are clean and even modernized. The offer in the minimarket is great, and the children's animation is good as well. However, the price-to-quality ratio is terrible. We paid 88 €/night for a neglected, stony 'Comfort pitch' riddled with roots. The entire site is aging and completely overcrowded with pitches. The owners should focus more on maintaining the facility than on commercialization. I've rarely paid so much money for so little. Pitches in the Netherlands with similar or better amenities cost about half!

What I didn’t like was the signage for the pitches; the numbers should be displayed with the names of the paths, for example, Beach Path 1-16.

We really enjoyed our stay at the campsite in a rental caravan this time! The kids love splashing around in either the pool or the Baltic Sea. The sanitary facilities are in good, and above all, very clean condition. If there are issues, help is available even after 8 PM in emergencies. All in all… We will rent this caravan again. What I would find desirable is that the caravans are cleaned with a pressure washer to remove bird droppings before new guests arrive... It always looks a bit unsightly. Fortunately, our caravan was not too heavily affected; otherwise, it wouldn’t have received a 5-star rating.

The campsite is very dog-friendly, and the restaurants are excellent. The only downside is that the fast food is quite overpriced.

Great campsite! Clean, well-organized, and good service. Leisure activities are well and accurately described on the website. During heavy rain, the drain was blocked. We reported it, and within 20 minutes it was fixed. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case.

The short 9-hole course and the taster courses on offer also make the course attractive for beginners.
Exciting excursions at Wulfener Hals
Families particularly enjoy taking part in the pirate and Viking trips organised by the campsite. A fishing cutter takes them out to sea, and on the way the little ones throw a message in a bottle with a treasure map they have made into the water. The Hansapark, around 45 minutes' drive from the Wulfener Hals campsite, is ideal for a day trip. In Germany's only adventure park right by the sea, guests can expect 11 exciting themed worlds, sensational rollercoasters such as the Raging Roland, tree houses and many other attractions. Nature lovers are drawn to the Wallnau bird reserve, where red-necked grebes, little terns and other rare birds, Galloway cattle and protected amphibians live. The visitor centre provides interesting information on bird migration in the exhibition "A dream of flying".
Pitch or rental property
The accommodation options at the campsite are particularly varied. The beautifully situated pitches for motorhomes are not just reserved for permanent campers. Guests can also benefit if they book in good time. Caravans for hire in the motorhome park are also an alternative accommodation option. Bookings can be made both in the high and low season. Dog camping is generally possible without any problems, although there are restrictions on request.
