Extensive nature and wildlife reserves, plenty of greenery and exciting sights - the Bavarian administrative district of Upper Palatinate makes campers' hearts beat faster. Campers can look forward to a particularly nature-loving stay in the midst of green meadows, picturesque villages and small rivers.
Many of the Upper Palatinate campsites are particularly child-friendly and guarantee a successful holiday for young and old with separate youth campsites and activity parks. And your beloved four-legged friend is also a welcome guest.
Located in north-east Bavaria, the Upper Palatinate region welcomes its guests with a range of excellent campsites. Some of them border directly on a sparkling lake, such as Lake Steinberg. The neighbouring Czech Republic is only a stone's throw away from here, but other surrounding destinations are also ideal for a day trip. The region is rich in natural treasures - the ideal setting for various leisure activities such as cycling, mountain biking or water sports. Winter sports are also very popular during the colder months.
The diversity of the region is also reflected in the campsites: whether you are a sportsman, a relaxation seeker or a culture lover - every type of holidaymaker will find the perfect campsite for them when camping in the Upper Palatinate. Be it near a lake, such as Lake Murner See, or right next to a city like Regensburg. Active holidaymakers especially love the wide-ranging sports programme, from hiking in the nature reserve to mountain biking through the Upper Palatinate Forest.
Caravan and motorhome drivers can expect a well-developed and adequately signposted route to their desired campsite. Only in the summer months of July and August can there be increased traffic jams or other traffic obstructions on the motorways due to the European summer holidays.
The Upper Palatinate is a large region and therefore, depending on the departure and destination, there are different routes and various options for stopovers. Three motorways cross the region: the A3, the A6 and the A93. Coming from Leipzig, for example, the Mitterteich service area on the A93 motorway with its excellent restaurant is ideal. The TOTAL motorway service area in Alfeld is an ideal stopover for all campers travelling from Nuremberg.
The route from Munich to Weiden in der Oberpfalz is 200 km via the A9 and A93 motorways, past Regensburg. Once you have passed Regensburg, it is only a stone's throw to your destination of Weiden in der Oberpfalz.
Coming from the south, campers are best advised to leave the motorway at Regensburg and take the beautiful route through the Naab Valley via Mariaort and Kallmünz - a fantastic drive that reveals the beauty of the Upper Palatinate region.
Whether it's a swimming holiday at the largest lake in Eastern Bavaria, Lake Steinberg, or an active holiday in the town of Tirschenreuth - the regions and campsites in the Upper Palatinate are diverse and offer plenty of opportunities for leisure activities.
Campers can spend wonderful days by the water at Lake Steinberg and treat themselves to a well-deserved break with their loved ones. Here, bathers will find romantic, quiet bays as well as lively sand and pebble beaches. Water sports such as water skiing and sailing are very popular with active holidaymakers. The shore is lined with cafés and restaurants with terraces where you can round off a wonderful day's holiday.
Nestled in a colourful landscape, the town of Tirschenreuth welcomes its guests with numerous attractions and cultural facilities. The small Upper Palatinate town is characterised by almost 4,000 surrounding ponds. Hikers and anglers are particularly impressed by the extensive forest and pond area around Tirschenreuth, which is home to well-signposted hiking routes and cycle paths. In addition, the annual Fish Experience Weeks are organised during the fishing season to teach visitors all about fish, for example how to handle a fishing rod.
Family hikes, long-distance hiking trails and interesting sights - there is plenty to discover in the Upper Palatinate. In addition to culturally rich cities and great sightseeing opportunities, campers can also reconnect with nature here.

With more than 900 years of history, the excursion destination attracts numerous visitors every year. It is also home to the second largest nature and rock park in Bavaria, the Falkenstein Castle Park nature reserve. Guided tours of the castle are offered every fortnight for day visitors, which always take place on Sundays without booking.
