Milan, the capital of Lombardy, is not that far away for many Germans. The distance between the German city of Munich and Lombardy is around 500 kilometres and can easily be covered in one day. The roads are well developed and signposted, although traffic jams can occur in the peak season, i.e. in the summer months of July and August. It should also be noted that a motorway tax sticker is required when driving through Austria or Switzerland.
From Munich, caravan owners and motorhome drivers take the route towards Innsbruck and drive on the A22 motorway via the Italian border, Bolzano and Trento to their destination in Lombardy. For all holidaymakers from south-west Germany, the quickest route is through Switzerland and the St. Gotthard Tunnel to Lombardy.
The route from Munich via the Brenner motorway in Austria is very popular due to the spectacular panorama, which makes the route particularly attractive. It winds its way through dreamy villages and Italian landscapes and guarantees a pleasant and relaxed journey, not least because of the reduced toll charges.

Milan is a lively Italian metropolis and also forms the centre of Lombardy. Centuries of art and cultural history are combined here. Milan is also internationally regarded as the capital of fashion and design, which is confirmed by the numerous shopping streets and shopping centres. Large fashion chains, luxury shops and boutiques as well as upscale restaurants and small cafés invite you to stroll and linger. Culture enthusiasts will find world-famous sights here, such as Milan Cathedral, which was once built in the Gothic style, or the Teatro alla Scala, one of the most important opera houses in the world.
Lake Garda is one of the northern Italian lakes and is also considered the largest lake in Italy. With its azure waters, lush Mediterranean vegetation and alpine mountain backdrop, it attracts numerous visitors year after year and is one of the most popular destinations for campers in this region.

The temperate continental climate in Lombardy ensures hot, dry summers and mild winters. Due to the diverse landscapes, the weather can vary considerably: While the Po Valley, for example, is one of the warmest regions in Italy, the mountains even have an alpine climate.
The summer months of July and August are ideal for a relaxing lakeside holiday with the whole family, as this is when it is at its hottest with temperatures of up to 30 degrees Celsius. The cool, deep blue waters of the lakes promise a refreshing cool-down.
Active holidaymakers and culture lovers prefer the months of April, May, September and October to marvel at the numerous sights or take advantage of the tempting range of sports on offer in milder temperatures.
