Swiss winters not only entice winter sports enthusiasts to go skiing, sledging or cross-country skiing. The cold season also attracts camping holidaymakers to Heidiland and other regions. Whether you want to hike through snow-covered forests, practise ice skating on frozen ponds or enjoy a cosy campfire with stick bread. Winter at the campsite offers attractive experiences for everyone.

Find a suitable winter campsite in Switzerland

  • Switzerland is particularly suitable for holidaymakers who like to spend their winter holiday actively. Travellers who love skiing should therefore pack their sports equipment in their suitcases and book a winter campsite near the ski slopes. With almost 400 ski resorts, the choice is huge. Matterhorn-Zermatt and Saas-Fee are among the most popular.
  • Recreation is not neglected when winter camping in Switzerland. In addition to comfortable accommodation, many campsites in Switzerland offer pools and saunas that can be used by guests. Alternatively, take advantage of the wide range of Swiss thermal baths.
  • Dogs are very welcome at many campsites. So your beloved pet doesn't have to stay at home, but can be taken along to winter camping in Switzerland without any problems.

The winter adventure

There is always something to experience in the winter paradise of Switzerland, whether with friends, your partner or the whole family. Winter camping in Switzerland is just as worthwhile for nature lovers and sports enthusiasts as it is for adventurers and romantics.

Winter fun in the face of the Eiger North Face

From Camping Eigernordwand, camping guests can be in the centre of the mountain world in just a few minutes. The Grindelwald ski area awaits its visitors with ski pistes totalling 220 km in length. The longest toboggan run in the world ends directly in the village of the same name at the foot of the Eiger, and from there 100 km of perfectly groomed winter hiking trails lead through the snow-covered mountains and hills of Switzerland. For those who need a break from the cold and want to warm up, the Grindelwald Sports Centre has an indoor swimming pool with solarium and sauna, a rope park and an ice rink.

Panoramic excursions around Unterägeri

Tempting panoramic excursions can be undertaken from the Unterägeri campsite. On the one hand, campers can take the world's first revolving gondola lift up to the Mostelberg, explore the Rigi recreational paradise in the snow or go on a snowshoe tour in the Wildspitz. On the other hand, boat trips are offered on Lake Aegeri all year round. The lake also has a rafting centre where rafts are still tied in the traditional way.

Directly from the campsite to hot winter events

The winter campsites in Switzerland also score points in the cold season with their interesting events directly on the campsite or in the surrounding area.

February

  • Carnival: In February, carnival takes place in various cantons such as Lucerne and Basel. Young and old visitors and residents of Switzerland take to the streets in colourful, often homemade costumes.

November

  • Gansabhauet: In Sursee near Lucerne, the traditional Gansabhauet takes place every year on St Martin's Day, 11 November. A blindfolded person wearing a sun mask tries to cut off the head of an already lifeless goose with a sword thrust. The person who succeeds gets to keep the goose.

December

  • New Year's Eve parties: Some winter campsites in Switzerland organise New Year's Eve parties for their guests or external visitors, with catering and fireworks.
