Camping in Hochsauerland is a good choice for anyone who enjoys swimming by the lake and sport in a mountainous landscape. Located in the Hochsauerland district of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Waldeck-Frankenberg district of Hesse, the region offers many great opportunities, for example for luxury camping with every comfort. Indoor swimming pools, many other water sports attractions and special offers for children and families, together with excursions into the nature and culture of the area, ensure a successful holiday.

Special features of camping in the Hochsauerland

The many campsites in Hochsauerland are surrounded by a picturesque landscape with mountains, forests and reservoirs. Swimming and sunbathing on the beach are the order of the day at Lake Hennesee - but water sports such as sailing and rowing are also very popular.

Lake Diemelsee is also ideal for water sports enthusiasts and anglers. There are also signposted hiking and Nordic walking trails. Children enjoy so-called geocoaches, a modern form of paper chase, as well as a corn maze. There is also a broad programme of events including concerts and family hikes.

In the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge Nature Park, holidaymakers can discover many well-developed hiking trails that are easy to reach from the hiking car park. There are also many nature parks to explore. Highlights for culture lovers include castles and palaces such as those in Altena or Olsberg.

Weather

When camping in Hochsauerland, guests enjoy a moderate Central European climate. The summer months in particular are ideal for swimming at the lake with an average temperature of just under 21 degrees Celsius. Hikes and excursions in the surrounding area are also possible at this time. Events such as open-air concerts attract visitors to the countryside.

Despite the altitude, the transitional season is also pleasant with some sunshine. The thermometer reaches 12 to 16 degrees Celsius in April and May, with April being the month with the least rainfall of the year. The situation is similar in September and October with 17 and 12 degrees respectively. As it is cold in winter and frost can occur, a camping holiday is particularly recommended from May to September.
