Favourite places in the region

The Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula has a lot to offer! The first port of call for many visitors is Zingst, the main town in the region. Here you can enjoy the fresh Baltic Sea air on the promenade and go on excursions into the beautiful surroundings. The former fishing village of Wustrow at the narrowest point of the peninsula offers maritime flair. Its location between the Bodden and the Baltic coast makes it a popular destination for beach holidaymakers and water sports enthusiasts. One of the most famous places is certainly Prerow, which boasts one of the best beaches in the entire Baltic Sea and, with the Darßwald forest, offers a great area for long hikes and walks.

Zingst

Zingst is the easternmost municipality and the main town on the peninsula. Zingst is primarily known as a health resort with a variety of wellness facilities and a beautiful spa centre. The promenade along the beach with its old captain's houses is a wonderful place to stroll and stop for a bite to eat. The 30 metre wide sandy beach is supervised by lifeguards in summer and is ideal for families. The local history museum with its museum courtyard and the famous pier, which offers great views of the Baltic Sea and is illuminated in the evening, are also worth a visit. The neighbouring Zingster Osterwald forest is a beautiful area for walks, bike tours and hikes.

Wustrow

The former fishing village of Wustrow lies between Saaler Bodden and the Baltic Sea at the entrance to the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. On the seaward side, visitors can enjoy the extensive, fine sandy Baltic Sea beach and the pier. On the lagoon side, there are wide meadows, broad reed beds and gently sloping water, which offers ideal conditions for sailing and surfing. Among the sights in the village are the Protestant church, which can be seen from afar, and the former post office, which is now the "Haus des Gastes" (Guest House) and presents interesting facts about the region. Also worth a visit is the Barnstdorf art barn, where works by contemporary artists are shown in changing exhibitions.

Prerow

The Baltic seaside resort of Prerow is one of the most popular holiday resorts on the Darß and is known above all for its 5 km long and up to 100 m wide sandy beach, which is one of the most beautiful on the entire Baltic coast. But there is also plenty to see in the town itself: The Natureum Darßer Ort offers exciting insights into the fauna and flora of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park, while the Darß Museum provides information about the history of the peninsula. The Seemannskirche Prerow is one of the oldest monuments in the region. The Darßer Ort lighthouse, which is a landmark of the municipality, is also a very popular excursion destination. Prerow is surrounded by the Darßwald - an unspoilt coastal forest with numerous cycling and hiking trails that invite you to explore and observe nature.

Tour tip

Still have some time after your camping holiday in Zingst? Then we recommend a road trip with a motorhome along the German Baltic Sea coast - there is so much more to see here. One of our favourite routes starts in Lübeck and leads from there to Stralsund. On the way, you will pass pretty Baltic seaside resorts, the old Hanseatic city of Wismar and famous seaside resorts such as Kühlungsborn and Heiligendamm. Detours to the idyllic island of Poel and Fischland are also on the programme. The relaxed tour ends in Stralsund at the entrance to the island of Rügen. If you are already in Zingst anyway, simply cycle in the other direction. Alternatively, you can just visit individual sections of the route. It's definitely worth itfind out more
