Around 20 kilometres south-east of the recreation park, visitors can immerse themselves in the times of the Romans and Germanic tribes at the Kalkriese Museum & Park. This is where the Germanic tribes defeated three Roman legions under their leader Arminius Varus in the famous Varus Battle in the 9th century AD.
