Trees as far as the eye can see and a healthy climate create ideal conditions for rest and relaxation in natural surroundings. In harmony with nature, visitors to the campsites in the Palatinate Forest experience the most beautiful days of the year and unwind.
The campsites in the Palatinate Forest are located in a densely overgrown forest area. The Palatinate Forest extends over 1,500 square kilometres. It covers almost a third of the total area of the Palatinate and is one of the largest contiguous forest areas in Europe. Together with the French Northern Vosges, the Palatinate Forest has been declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO.
As a recreational area and ecological heritage of the highest quality, visitors enjoy the ideal location of the campsites. The Palatinate Forest National Park can be explored from the campsite with the family or your dog. The sandstone cliffs are well worth seeing. A mountain bike park for bikers or the Rodalben rock hiking trail provide further insights into nature. In addition to flora and fauna, sights such as castles and palaces as well as natural monuments such as the Devil's Table await.
Situated in a temperate climate zone, the Palatinate Forest is part of the transition area between the Atlantic and continental climate. The Palatinate Forest acts as a protective barrier against low-pressure areas from the west. While the central and western area is relatively humid with rainfall of 800 to 1,000 millimetres, the eastern area has more sunshine and fewer clouds.
The average annual temperature in the central mountain areas is 8 degrees Celsius. Bioclimatically, the Palatinate Forest has a gentle climate with high air purity. This creates a region with an ideal recreational climate, which should be visited especially in the summer months from May to August.
