Campingplatz Wappenschmiede

Small cozy campsite right next to the Palatinate Forest in Sankt Martin. I was here as a small child and visited the site again for the first time in decades in 2022. The sanitary facilities are clean and in very good condition. Everything is not ultra-modern, but it is still a clear recommendation.

Very nice site managers. We were on the upper terrace. This had plenty of sun. The number of sanitary facilities showers, toilets is too low when fully booked. The path to the toilets at night is a bit dark. The site is well suited for a weekend or short vacation.

We were at the site for 8 nights in the second week of the Easter holidays. A nature-friendly campsite with an ideal starting point for hiking or biking in the vineyards or in the Palatinate mountains. We cannot confirm that the site is dark. Those who visit this place experience camping in the original sense. The staff, especially the campsite manager Helge, were very friendly. The sanitary facilities were always clean, and the restaurant at the Wappenschmiede rounded off our positive overall impression of the site. Sankt Martin can be reached on foot in 10 minutes, and it is easy to taste a wine or two here at the wineries. Numerous hikes are also possible directly from the campsite, for example to the Kalmit. We are happy to come back.

Located at the edge of the forest, a small oasis of peace with very friendly staff. Sanitary facilities always very clean! Great starting point.

The pictures on the website unfortunately mislead about the actual conditions: the pitches of the campsite are on the left and right of the access road, very narrow, also towards the neighbors. You are practically sitting on the plate of presentation. So for us, it was more of a bad RV parking spot than a campsite. Due to the tall trees on both sides right behind the pitches, the entire place seems dark. We arrived after a cloudburst, and the last available spot assigned to us was pure mud; we would have sunk with our camper van in it. The site manager was very friendly (therefore 2 stars), apologized that there was no choice of pitch left since we were the last to arrive. But that wouldn’t have changed anything. We did not stay, we were simply disappointed by the misleading photos online. We can't say anything about the other facilities.

We had a spot reserved for 14 days, specifying the required size of our caravan (7.5 x 2.5 m). We could even choose between different spots, and the always friendly and helpful groundskeeper Helge had everything under control and was well prepared for our needs. The spaces are not excessively large, but they are sufficient even for our caravan with awning. You can park your car above by the restaurant. This is also good, as it prevents damage to the spots. The site drains well, even during heavy rain, which hit one night during the first week. It's normal for the ground to get a bit soft then. The washing facilities were always clean and sufficient even during full occupancy on weekends. The restaurant is very well run, the owners extremely friendly, and the food is good and reasonably priced. We would have liked to see a Palatinate specialty on the menu, but St. Martin is not far, and there is a wide selection there. Overall, a nice, small, and well-run campsite that is wonderfully integrated into the Palatinate Forest and from which you can undertake beautiful hikes as well as interesting excursions. The clientele was also fitting. Finally, one felt like they were among campers again. Our thanks once again especially to the groundskeeper Helge. He was always there for everyone. We will definitely come back!
