The Inn Valley around the River Inn stretches from Switzerland via Austria to Germany. In the Free State of Bavaria, north of Kufstein, you will find the campsites in the Inn Valley, which captivates with its green, hilly landscapes around the Mangfall Mountains. Camping with children and nature camping is particularly popular here, as there is plenty of swimming fun and entertainment at the campsites in the Inn Valley.
Surrounded by clear lakes, Bavarian mountains and wide meadows, there are several campsites in the Inn Valley. Most of the camping facilities are located near or directly on a lake such as the Einödsee or the Hawaiisee near Flintsbach. The Inntal region has a wide range of offers for families and caravan owners who want to enjoy a varied and active holiday in the great outdoors.
The spring and summer months in particular offer a wide range of leisure activities. Active holidaymakers and nature lovers can discover the surrounding area on idyllic cycle tours or hikes thanks to the extensive network of paths: Highlights include extensive tours through the Bavarian Forest, adventurous summer tobogganing on the Hocheck mountain or kayaking in one of the mountain rivers.
The campsites in the Inn Valley in Bavaria are easy to reach by car or motorhome, as the Inn Valley is only 75 km from Munich and just 25 km from Rosenheim and the motorway and road network is excellent. From Munich, for example, you can take the direct route via the A8 motorway. The A8 motorway is also the best option for a quick and easy journey from Stuttgart, around 300 km from the Bavarian Inn Valley.
During the journey, a stopover in Prien at the picturesque Chiemsee, which is located to the north-east, around 90 km from the campsite in the Inn Valley, is a good idea. Also known as the Bavarian Sea, Lake Chiemsee is the third largest lake in the whole of Germany. On Lake Chiemsee, the three islands - Herreninsel, Fraueninsel and Krautinsel - can be visited and discovered. A boat or boat trip across Lake Chiemsee or a visit to the King Ludwig II Museum on Herreninsel are great afternoon programme items. There is a historic monastery on Fraueninsel, the foundations of which date back to Carolingian times.
There are several campsites to choose from in the Bavarian Inn Valley, such as in the area around Lake Einödsee or in Flintsbach am Inn. Many visitors are drawn to the Inn Valley because of the beautiful natural landscapes, but there is also a wide range of activities on offer for active holidaymakers, such as a trip to the Sterntaler Filze or the Hochries hiking route.
The charming village of Flintsbach am Inn is located between Rosenheim and Kufstein, around 70 kilometres south-east of Munich. Especially in the warmer months, there is plenty to do here for all ages, such as a trip to Bad Feilnbach. In addition to hiking and swimming excursions, the Tregler Alm with its classic beer garden and the Nickelheim Moorstation museum can also be reached from here. If it's raining, campers can also opt for a relaxing afternoon at the Feuriger Tatzlwurm spa.
The independent city of Rosenheim is located at the confluence of the Mangfall and Inn rivers. There are several bathing lakes in the surrounding area, such as Lake Chiemsee and Lake Simssee. The Wendelstein and Kampenwand mountains can also be reached quickly and easily from here for hiking. Rosenheim is also home to the Riedergarten Park and the Mangfallpark as well as numerous museums such as the Inn Museum and the Municipal Museum.
For families who want to enjoy an active and eventful holiday, a camping trip to the Inn Valley is a great option. In addition to cycling tours and hiking excursions, the lakes are ideal for water sports for all ages.
Around 10 kilometres from Flintsbach is the Wildbarren mountain, which is a popular destination for hikes. The hiking route is categorised as easy and is also suitable for families. You should allow around three hours for the ascent and descent. The route starts at the Bichlersee car park, which you can also visit on the way. Hiking excursions to the Hirschberg or Kampen, which are also part of the Mangfallgebirge, are also popular. A more unusual way to explore the surrounding area is by Segway through the Alpine foothills.
A stay at Lake Chiemsee is a mecca for water sports enthusiasts, as you can go sailing, canoeing and kayaking here. Equipment for popular stand-up paddling (SUP) is also available at Lake Chiemsee. Water skiing is even offered at Hödenauer See, while there are also plenty of boats for hire for leisurely trips on the water at Chiemsee or Simssee.
The Inn Valley in Germany is located in the region of Bavaria, where hearty food and local beers are part of the lifestyle. More than 50 % of Germany's breweries are located in Bavaria, which is why there is a choice of over 4,000 types of beer. But wine connoisseurs will not be disappointed here either, as the distinctive Franconian wines are a real taste sensation.
The traditional Munich veal sausage is part of every festival. It is traditionally served with a pretzel and sweet mustard. Liver loaf with potato salad and fried eggs or as a snack in bread is also a classic Bavarian speciality. A traditional delicacy such as roast pork or coleslaw with bacon is also a must on a camping holiday in the Inn Valley.
It doesn't get too hot in Rosenheim and the surrounding area even in summer, as temperatures hover between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius between May and September. This period is therefore particularly suitable for a relaxing camping holiday. However, June and July are also the wettest months on average, which is why the warm and dry months of August to October are more pleasant for camping.
From November to March, sub-zero temperatures are not uncommon. The nearby Chiemsee reaches its highest temperature in summer in July at around 23 degrees Celsius and is also very pleasant for water sports from June to September, as temperatures do not fall below 20 degrees Celsius at this time.
