The holiday region, which is characterised by impressive peaks, stretches from Bavaria to the Inntal valley in the south. From the campsites in the Karwendel, active mountain climbers can head up to the Bikkarspitze or the Roßkopf. Families are drawn to the fascinating Geisterklamm gorge or the cool Achensee lake, for example. Guests at the pet-friendly campsites in the Karwendel can look forward to long walks with their four-legged friends.

Special features of camping in the Karwendel

Families and water sports enthusiasts are in good hands at the campsites in the Karwendel on the crystal-clear waters. Divers, for example, feel at home at the 133 metre deep Achensee with underwater visibility of up to 10 metres. The Tennsee and Walchsee lakes in the German Vorkarwendel also offer perfect conditions for an outdoor holiday.

The municipality of Scharnitz, right on the border with Germany, has established itself as a true holiday idyll. The campsites here are located on a high plateau. Hikes to the source of the Isar or along the Adlerweg trail are among the highlights for active holidaymakers. If you want to combine an active holiday with a cultural holiday, you can use the campsites in the Karwendel near the Tyrolean capital of Innsbruck. The famous Golden Roof and the Bergisel ski jump are worthwhile excursion destinations.

Weather

As the campsites in the Karwendel are located at different altitudes, the climate varies. While the temperatures on the southern slopes of the valleys are suitable for hiking as early as March, it stays cooler for longer at an altitude of 2,500 metres. Around Innsbruck, the air warms up to 30 degrees Celsius and more on summer days. Then clear waters such as Lake Achensee, which remains cool even in July and August with a water temperature of around 20 degrees Celsius, are tempting.

Just as many campsites in the Karwendel open in April, temperatures rise to 20 degrees Celsius. As it cools down considerably at night in spring and autumn, it is worth taking warm clothing with you. During the traditional Almabtrieb in September, temperatures are still a pleasant 20 degrees Celsius.
