For many Germans, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region is not that far away. There are around 730 kilometres between Munich and the metropolis of Lyon. The route leads through Switzerland and can easily be completed in one day. The road network on this route is well signposted and well developed. However, campers should be aware that there can often be traffic jams in the peak season months of July and August.
Caravan owners and motorhome drivers take the route from Munich via the Allgäu region past Lake Constance towards Zurich, past Bern and then towards Geneva. From there, it is only around 150 kilometres to the culturally rich city of Lyon. A stopover is recommended in Bern, where holidaymakers can take a look at the medieval old town and its architecture.
It's hardly any further from Cologne either: after 740 km via Trier, Luxembourg, Nancy and Dijon, Lyon can be reached quickly via motorways. However, it should be noted that tolls are charged on most sections of motorway in France.
