Beautiful, smaller campsite in a quiet location, a little away from the centre of Vallon-Pont-d'Arc. On the site you will find spacious pitches on grassy ground in the shade of old trees. A total of 6 different types of rental tents are on offer, including Canadian tents and Amazon tents for 5 people. The village of Vallon-Pont-d'Arc is located directly on the river and in the immediate vicinity of the spectacular natural stone arch Pont d'Arc. The main attraction of the region is the Ardèche Gorge, which stretches for a total length of 32 kilometres between Vallon Pont d'Arc and Saint Martin d'Ardèche. In between lies a unique nature reserve, which makes Vallon-Pont-d'Arc the ideal holiday destination for outdoor enthusiasts. There are numerous campsites around Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, most of which are located directly on the banks of the Ardèche. The famous sights are usually just a stone's throw away. Many campsites also hire out canoes or kayaks so that you can explore the Ardèche on the water directly from the campsite. Shallow beaches in the river bends invite you to swim and splash around. The leisure facilities on the campsites are also all about water. A water park with a swimming area, water slides, children's pool and other water games is standard on many holiday sites. In addition to pitches for caravans, motorhomes and caravans, mobile homes and rental accommodation for several people are usually also available to rent - perfect for camping enthusiasts who are travelling in the south of France without their own motorhome. Most campsites also have their own restaurant serving delicious local specialities. Self-caterers can either stock up at the campsite's own supermarket or in neighbouring Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, which is easily accessible from the campsites.
Dogs are allowed on many campsites in Vallon-Pont-d'Arc. So your four-legged companion doesn't have to stay at home during your camping holiday in the south of France. You will need a valid EU pet passport to enter the country. The dog must also be vaccinated against rabies and have a microchip. Your dog may of course also accompany you on excursions, such as canoe trips in the Ardèche Gorge. In the countryside, however, you should keep your dog on a lead.
You have to cover a good 642 kilometres from Freiburg im Breisgau to Vallon-Port-d'Arc. However, if you have plenty of time, you can turn the journey to France's wild south into a real sightseeing tour. The route is also perfect for a culinary gourmet trip. Just 60 kilometres after the border with France, you can stop off in Montbéliard to enjoy the historic old town, the château and the traditional Montbéliard sausage. After another 60 kilometres, Besançon offers the opportunity for a fishing stop - with a campsite right on the river. If you are looking for culture, art and hustle and bustle, take the pitch in the city centre. Next on the route is Chalon-sur-Saône, the lively city of art and history. 60 km further on is Mâcon, which enchants visitors with its colourful old town facades. Here in Bourgogne, fantastic wine and cheese are on everyone's lips. As far as Anse, you will be accompanied by the Saône and find numerous campsites by the river. A special highlight awaits you 200 kilometres before your destination: Lyon. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Parallel to the river Rotten, the route continues 100 km further south to Valence. 50 km before Vallon-Port-d'Arc, the nougat town of Montélimar offers countless delicious sweets.
On foot, by bike, on land, on water - or with climbing ropes somewhere between heaven and earth: the Ardèche is one of the most beautiful regions in France, especially for nature lovers and active holidaymakers.
The best way to experience the natural spectacle of the Ardèche Gorge is on the water. Whether with your own kayak, canoe or a hire boat - a trip on the water in the gorges, which are up to 300 metres high, is simply a must. Most tours into the "French Grand Canyon" start at the mighty Pont d'Arc rock portal. White water canoeists will find routes of all levels of difficulty here. However, the main river at Vallon-Port-d'Arc is suitable for families. In summer in particular, there are no rapids to stand in the way of sporting fun.
The Ardèche gorge is not only reserved for kayakers and canoeists, but can also be explored on foot. A hiking trail marked in white and yellow crosses the entire gorge, although the route is only accessible at low water in high summer and even then some sections have to be forded. Alternatively, numerous hiking trails lead to the densely overgrown plateaus on the edge of the gorges. For the more adventurous, join the climbers on the steep slopes. The best climbing areas can be found on the Chassezac, a tributary of the Ardèche.
In the huge underground chambers of the Aven d'Orgnac, 15 kilometres south of Vallon-Port-d'Arc, majestic stalagmites and stalactites amaze visitors. A sensational archaeological find was made in 1994 with the cave paintings of the Chauvet Grotto. A faithful replica of the cave in Vallon-Port-d'Arc also allows visitors to experience it. Countless stalactite caves have formed in the limestone massif of the Ardèche. Many of them invite you to be enchanted by the spectacular geology - a cool change from daily sunbathing in high summer.
Eat like God in France - that also works in the south of France as a self-caterer. If your language skills don't allow you to shop at the weekly market, you'll be well catered for at the supermarket. You will also find a huge selection of regional products in the country's numerous supermarchés and intermarchés. Chestnuts, almost only known in Germany as chestnuts at the fair or as a Christmas roast side dish, are processed into a wide variety of delicacies in the department of Ardèche. With olives and fresh baguettes with goat's cheese, wild boar sausage or lavender honey, you can savour all the flavours of the region. Excellent wines and traditional, hearty cuisine round off the offer - making camping in Vallon-Port-d 'Arc a culinary delight.
The climate in the Ardèche is moderately warm and hardly falls below freezing point even in winter. If you don't mind chilly nights, you can experience early spring in Vallon-Port-d'Arc as early as March/April. This is when the cherries are in bloom and the first lizards blink in the sun. The region is a sea of colourful flowers until June. It's already warm enough for swimming and there's not yet much hustle and bustle on and along the river. With the heat of high summer, it's not just the Mediterranean herbs that come into their own: the Ardèche now becomes an Eldorado for families, with children quickly finding companions for adventures in the shallow riverbed. The summer months of June, July and August are the peak season, which is why you should book places in advance if possible. Temperatures are around 40 degrees Celsius until September. Harvest time is also a great time to pick mushrooms.
