Texel is known as Holland in miniature due to the diversity of its landscape. A 30 kilometre-long sandy beach stretches along the west coast of the West Frisian island, which is perfect for jumping into the waves of the North Sea. A wide range of water sports activities such as catamaran sailing and sailing are very popular. The nature of the Wadden Island is also great for hiking, cycling and bird watching. You can even observe Konik horses in the wild. Typical Gulf houses and sheep barns also catch the eye.

Camping on Texel combines the most beautiful aspects of Holland in a small format. Holidaymakers can look forward to snow-white beaches, beautiful nature reserves and plenty of sunshine. This makes the largest Dutch Wadden island ideal for beach fans, families and active holidaymakers. Idyllic island villages such as Ooudeschild or Oosterend and the Wadden Sea invite you to take long walks. The range of campsites on Texel is as varied as the island itself.
Texel is the largest North Sea island in the Netherlands and is easily accessible just off the coast of North Holland. The crossing is by ferry, which departs every hour from Den Helder on the mainland. The capital of Texel is Den Burg. There are many beautiful family campsites by the North Sea here. The seaside resort of De Koog is also popular with beach holidaymakers and the landscape is very varied: in addition to dunes, salt marshes, mudflats and the two forest areas "Dennenboos" and "Krimbos", there is around 30 km of snow-white sandy beach on the west coast of the island. Nature lovers will get their money's worth on Texel, as there are numerous nature campsites, dune camps and tent pitches. The campsites right on the edge of one of the 40 nature reserves are particularly recommended. Texel is also very popular with dog owners. The island is extremely dog-friendly and is a true paradise for campers who want to take their four-legged friends on holiday with them. Dogs are generally allowed on the campsites. Dogs are also allowed to run free on the beaches. Exceptions are the guarded beach areas in the high season (1 March to 1 September).
In addition to pitches for caravans and motorhomes, many campsites also offer well-equipped rental accommodation, bungalows or mobile homes. Electricity connections, water supply (e.g. with water pumps) and modern sanitary buildings with baby changing facilities are standard. There is usually a playground for children. In addition, a children's entertainment programme is often offered during the holiday season.
Dune Camp Robbenjager is located in the unspoilt northern part of Texel in the middle of the Duinen van Texel National Park. Here, guests can enjoy a relaxing family holiday on the campsite or in a mobile home and are just a few minutes away from the beach. Right next to the campsite is one of Texel's most famous landmarks: the Eierland lighthouse. If you fancy a stroll along the beach, take one of the adventurous hiking trails through the neighbouring dune areas.
Camping Coogherveld is another popular family campsite near the beach with a wide range of leisure activities, spacious pitches and excellent transport links: The seaside resort of De Koog is just 200 metres from the site. Four-legged friends are welcome on the pitches and are also allowed in some of the chalets. An entertainment programme is offered during the summer months.
The natural campsite Landal Sluftervallei offers pitches for motorhomes in the middle of the dunes on the edge of the De Slufter nature reserve. This makes it particularly suitable for nature lovers and hikers. The beach is around 2 kilometres away and is best reached by bike. The safari tents for up to 6 people are particularly popular with large families.
This popular and well-known dune campsite offers beautiful camping pitches, motorhome pitches and hikers' cabins right by the sea near De Koog. Thanks to its location in the west of the island, the evening sun is particularly beautiful here: guests can look forward to marvellous sunsets. The site belongs to the operator De Krim Texel, which has three other great sites on the west coast of Texel.
Camping Loodsmansduin is also located on the western sunny side of Texel and is particularly popular with families. Children can let off steam in the large playground in the pine forest and build sandcastles on the beach. Those who don't feel like swimming in the North Sea can simply relax by the large outdoor pool. The beautiful Texel Dune National Park and the picturesque village of Den Hoorn are close by.
This car-free campsite is tucked away in the pine forest "De Dennen" on the west side of Texel and is perfect for campers looking for peace and quiet. The large comfort pitches offer plenty of space and privacy in the shade of the old trees. A number of cycling and hiking trails lead through the extensive wooded area, making the site a popular choice for active holidaymakers. The North Sea beach is around 10 minutes away by bike.
Visitors who explore the Dutch island in a clockwise direction during their camping holiday will come across seven dreamy island villages in beautiful countryside. A good starting point is the island's capital Den Burg, where a good dose of culture is on the agenda alongside great nature experiences. The seaside resort of De Koog on the west coast is particularly popular with beach fans. The municipality of Oudeschild in the east is a great starting point for boat trips into the Wadden Sea.
The main town of Texel is home to most of the island's inhabitants. The monastery courtyard has been the administrative centre of the Dutch island since 1345. The town got its name from the castle character that can be seen in the streets. There is also a castle canal and a castle rampart. If you want to get to the sea from here, you can cycle through the coastal forest and dunes in just under 20 minutes.
In De Koog, only two chains of dunes separate you from a dip in the North Sea. The vibrant seaside resort is therefore the favourite camping destination for beach lovers and offers a first-class infrastructure with hotels and bungalow parks. The cafés, restaurants and souvenir shops do the rest and attract many island travellers. An old church dating back to 1415 can be visited in the centre of the village.
Texel's third largest municipality, Oudeschild, is idyllically situated at the eastern end of the Dutch island. The marina in Oudeschild is a popular meeting place, where up to 200 boats and ships can moor. At the fishing harbour, visitors can buy the best fish on the island for the campfire or the camp kitchen or join an exciting boat trip. The seal banks in the Wadden Sea off Texel are a popular excursion destination.
Texel is located in the West Frisian Wadden Sea: a mudflat hike in this unique habitat is a great experience that you will remember for a long time to come. Together with an experienced guide, you can walk across the seabed several times a week. The tours start from the Texel Wadden dyke in De Cocksdorp. Excursions also depart from Oudeschild to a long sandbank where seals regularly hang out. Also worth a visit is the Ecomare aquarium in De Koog, which also has its own seal breeding centre.
