Overijssel forms the picturesque hinterland of the Netherlands and delights leisure-oriented holidaymakers with its vast moors. Holidaymakers can cycle between idyllic communities such as Zwolle, Almelo and Enschede. Pure relaxation is offered by bodies of water such as the small Zwarter Meer or Lake Belterwijde. The latter is lined with some of the most beautiful campsites in Overijssel.
Most camping holidaymakers are drawn to the north of the Dutch province of Overijssel. Here you will find the Zwarte Meer with some excellent marinas as a starting point for sailing and surfing. The Belterwijde lake, which is part of the Weerribben-Wieden National Park, also offers good water sports opportunities.
With its canals and moors, reed beds and small ponds, the Weerribben-Wieden nature reserve is a real recreational paradise. Here, travellers can go on canoe trips and relax by the water. Culture fans should definitely visit Enschede, where numerous paintings from the golden age of Dutch painting are on display in the Rijksmuseum. In Zwolle, the historic brick buildings such as the Sachsentor and the Church of Our Lady are well worth a visit.
