Flanders forms the Flemish part of Belgium and is located in the north of the country. It is home to some of the most beautiful North Sea beaches in Europe, which are ideal for camping by the sea. Seaside resorts such as Zeebrugge, De Panne and Oostende in particular offer good conditions for this type of holiday. The Gothic old towns of Ghent, Bruges and Antwerp are well worth a visit in terms of cultural history. National parks such as Hoge Kempen fascinate with their heathlands and pine forests.

Special features of camping in Flanders

The campsites in Flanders are spread over a comparatively large area that alternates between pine forests, the floodplains along the Meuse and the dunes of the North Sea. Stays on the coast are particularly popular. The clean beaches stretch for over 70 kilometres between De Panne and Knokke-Heist. Here you will find some of the best seaside resorts with a sophisticated flair in Belgium.

In the hinterland, you can go on extensive cycle tours or visit the historic towns of the region on a road trip. The Gothic centres of Ghent and Antwerp are particularly worth a visit. Both municipalities are also known for their excellent cuisine. The Limburg region is also a cycling paradise.

Best time to visit

The months from May to October are ideal for camping in Flanders. Especially in midsummer, temperatures in the fresh air are around 23 degrees Celsius. In the hinterland - in the Limburg region, for example - there is relatively little rainfall during this period. On the coast, on the other hand, you can expect a little more rainfall. In June and September, the temperature is around 17 degrees Celsius.

The bathing season mainly comprises the months of July, August and September. Temperatures in the North Sea are then between 17 and 18 degrees Celsius. The air temperature is around 20 degrees Celsius. Water sports enthusiasts are also drawn to Ostend and the surrounding area from April to June and in dry September.
