Tips for activities and excursions around Torbole

Torbole is primarily a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. However, the beautiful surroundings and the pleasant Mediterranean climate also make the historic town the perfect starting point for activities such as hiking and cycling. And if you just want to relax and enjoy the sun, Torbole is just the place for you.

Windsurfing, sailing and water sports

Thanks to its location directly on Lake Garda, the constant wind and the ban on motorboats, Torbole has long been known as a popular destination for sailing and windsurfing. Even if you don't have much experience with water sports, you are welcome in Torbole: There are numerous surf schools and providers of sailing courses in the town - mostly in the immediate vicinity of the campsites.

Swimming on the beaches of Torbole

Of course, Lake Garda also invites you to go swimming. The Al Cor Torbole beach is very popular with families: There is also a children's playground right next to the well-tended pebble beach. Along the beach, you can also relax in the shade of the trees in Pavese Park and watch the colourful hustle and bustle on the beach. There are bars, kiosks, restaurants and a sailing school along the entire beach promenade.

Cycling and mountain biking

With its many cycle paths, Torbole is a great destination for cyclists and mountain bikers. One popular tour is the Torbole-Sarche cycle path. It connects the shores of Lake Garda with the Sarca Valley and is also easy to master for leisure cyclists. Ambitious mountain bikers can also use this route to reach the starting point of many MTB tours in the area around Torbole.

Hiking and climbing in the mountains of Trentino

The beautiful mountainous surroundings of Trentino make Torbole the ideal starting point for hiking excursions, trekking tours or climbing in the nearby Trentino mountains. One of the most beautiful hikes in the area leads from the small Santa Lucia valley towards Nago to the foot of the Penede rocks. The Via Ferrata Fausto Susatti is a fairly easy but very rewarding via ferrata with wonderful views from the mountain slopes over Lake Garda.

Walk through the historic centre of Torbole

Torbole also has its charm. The historic town centre even inspired Goethe. The poet spent a few months in Torbole during his trip to Italy between September 1786 and May 1788 and was completely enchanted by the charm of the little village. You can see for yourself on a walk through the village centre with its winding, old alleyways. The harbour with the Vecchia Dogana, the Casa Beust and the customs house (Casetta del Dazio) are particularly beautiful. Afterwards, take a break in one of the many lovely restaurants and savour the moment with a glass of red wine - this is dolce vita and Italy at its most pleasant.

Best time to travel for a camping holiday in Torbole

Although Torbole lies amidst the high mountains of Trentino, the climate of this picturesque little town is characterised by the Mediterranean. This leads to dry, hot summers and comparatively mild winters with some rainfall. The season in Torbole generally starts quite early: the first campsites open their doors as early as March, when the flowers begin to bloom. The best time to visit Torbole for a camping holiday is between June and September. During this time, the sun shines for up to ten hours a day on average. This is also the peak season and thanks to the warm, sunny weather, you can take advantage of almost all leisure activities. The water of Lake Garda is also pleasantly warm, with temperatures of around 20 degrees being suitable for swimming from June onwards. In August, the water temperature can reach 25 degrees in particularly hot summers - almost tropical conditions. It is also very warm outside the water in Torbole in summer. Temperatures of over 30 degrees are not uncommon here. From October onwards, it gets cooler - the water temperature quickly drops below 20 degrees and it also gets cooler outside. However, the low season of March/April and September/October is good for outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain biking or climbing tours. However, you should always take rainwear with you in case of an emergency.
