With more than 20 kilometres of powder-white dream beaches and almost 2,500 hours of sunshine a year, the popular beach resort of Renesse in the Dutch province of Zeeland is the perfect destination for sun-seeking campers. The well-known seaside resort offers a wonderful white sandy beach with beach pavilions and cafés and its lively atmosphere is particularly popular with young families. Middelburg, the historic capital of the province of Zeeland, with its many magnificent historic buildings, is also well worth a visit. Another popular destination for day trips is the old harbour town of Zierikzee, where you can still feel Zeeland's maritime past today.

Renesse

With over 20 kilometres of sandy beach, the seaside resort of Renesse is particularly popular with beach holidaymakers. The beach is divided into several sections for families, water sports enthusiasts and naturists and is lined with numerous beach pavilions, cafés and restaurants that invite you to relax. The lively little town with its clubs and discos is particularly popular with young people. In summer, there are also numerous night markets that are open until late. There are a number of cycle and hiking trails in the surrounding area, for example in the beautiful Westerschouwen forest near Burgh-Haamstede or to the magnificent Moermond Castle.

Middelburg

Middelburg is the capital of the province of Zeeland and one of the most beautiful towns in the region. With its historic, listed canal houses and numerous winding alleyways, Middelburg invites you to take a leisurely stroll and explore the many sights. Highlights include the market square, the late Gothic town hall - one of the most beautiful buildings in the Netherlands - and the Abbey of Our Lady, founded in 1100. The Zeeuws Museum is also located here, where visitors can gain fascinating insights into the history of Zeeland. If you want to get up high, climb the 90 metre high abbey tower, the "Long Jan". Especially on sunny days, you can enjoy wonderful views of the Walcheren peninsula and its picturesque coastal landscapes.

Zierikzee

The harbour town of Zierikzee was one of the richest trading towns in Zeeland in the Middle Ages and its glorious past can still be felt today. The historic town centre is home to over 500 well-preserved, listed buildings that form an impressive silhouette. Particularly worth seeing is the tower of St Lieven's Minster, the so-called "Fat Tower", which visitors can climb up 279 steps. Right next to the tower is the "New Church", built between 1835 and 1848. Also worth a visit are the Old and New Harbours, where numerous historic boats and ships are moored. The Maritime Museum offers an insight into the maritime history of this traditional city. During a visit, you should definitely try one of Zeeland's delicious specialities, such as the "Zeeuwse Bolus" (sweet pastry) or genuine Oosterschelde crayfish.

  • Deltapark Neeltje Jans: Deltapark Neeltje Jans is an amusement park, water playground and interactive museum all in one. In addition to a tour of the Delta Works, guests can visit seal and sea lion shows in the water amusement park, take part in boat trips and learn more about the impressive powers of water in film screenings.
  • Oosterschelde storm surge barrier: The Oosterschelde storm surge barrier in Deltapark Neeltje Jans is one of Zeeland's most impressive structures. Over 3 kilometres long, the weir protects the island from storm surges and is sometimes referred to as the "eighth wonder of the world".
  • Renesse beach: The 20 kilometre long beach of Renesse is one of the most beautiful beaches in Zeeland and has been awarded the Blue Flag for excellent water quality several times in the past. A great place to sunbathe and relax!
  • Moermond Castle: The 15th century moated castle Moermond is one of the most beautiful destinations in the neighbourhood of Renesse and impresses with its imposing architecture. It is surrounded by 45 hectares of beautiful nature reserve.
  • Watersnoodmuseum: The Flood Museum in Ouwerkerk is one of the most exciting museums in Holland and tells the story of the 1953 flood disaster that changed Zeeland forever.
