With more than 20 kilometres of powder-white dream beaches and almost 2,500 hours of sunshine a year, the popular beach resort of Renesse in the Dutch province of Zeeland is the perfect destination for sun-seeking campers. Water sports enthusiasts use the deep blue water for sailing or surfing. The beautiful surroundings are also ideal for cycling or hiking. As dogs are allowed on the beach all year round, Renesse is also very popular with campers with dogs.
Renesse is located on Schouwen-Duiveland, the largest island in Zeeland, in the south-west of the Netherlands. The region is considered to have the most hours of sunshine in the country - which is why Renesse is particularly popular with beach holidaymakers and water sports enthusiasts. The beaches are very clean and the water quality has been awarded the Blue Flag several times. There are separate sections of beach for families, water sports enthusiasts and naturists, and dogs are allowed on a lead even in the high season - no wonder Renesse is the favourite holiday destination of many dog owners. The campsites in Renesse are mainly located in the extensive dune landscape near the beach. The water is usually just a stone's throw away and water sports enthusiasts can hire equipment at many campsites. There are also a number of surfing and sailing schools and diving centres around the town. Bicycle hire is also available at most campsites - the island is perfect for cycling tours and excursions to the surrounding holiday resorts and historic towns such as Zierikzee and Brouwershaven. Dogs are allowed on most campsites. The pitches usually have an electricity connection and a connection for water. In the high season, many campsites offer a leisure programme and children's entertainment. Some campsites also have special motorhome pitches with a service station for campers passing through. As Renesse is a very popular holiday destination, it is advisable to book well in advance, especially in summer!

The huge holiday complex near the beach offers generously parcelled pitches and holiday accommodation. A highlight for kids is the large water park with indoor pool and the indoor Kinderland. Children's entertainment and regular theme evenings ensure a good time for young and old.
Camping Duinhoeve is beautifully situated in a wood between the dunes of Renesse. The beach is just a few minutes' walk away, and there is a separate dog area with a free-range area for dogs. Children will enjoy the large playground, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool and the climbing forest opposite the campsite. A snack bar, restaurant and supermarket cater for all tastes.
Situated almost directly in the centre of Renesse, Vakantiepark Schouwen nevertheless offers a very quiet atmosphere, which makes the site the ideal choice for those seeking relaxation. The beach is only about 1 kilometre away and Renesse is almost round the corner. Numerous cycle routes into the surrounding area start directly at the campsite. An entertainment programme is also offered in summer. The cosy little restaurant on site is also highly recommended.
Although Zeeland is primarily known for its beaches, it also has a lot to offer away from them! If you just want to relax by the water and enjoy the sun, Renesse is definitely the place for you. The well-known seaside resort offers a wonderful white sandy beach with beach pavilions and cafés and its lively atmosphere is particularly popular with young families. Middelburg, the historic capital of the province of Zeeland, with its many magnificent historic buildings, is also well worth a visit. Another popular destination for day trips is the old harbour town of Zierikzee, where you can still feel Zeeland's maritime past today.

The lively little town with its clubs and discos is particularly popular with young people. In summer, there are also numerous night markets that are open until late. There are a number of cycle and hiking trails in the surrounding area, for example in the beautiful Westerschouwen forest near Burgh-Haamstede or to the magnificent Moermond Castle.
Middelburg is the capital of the province of Zeeland and one of the most beautiful towns in the region. With its historic, listed canal houses and numerous winding alleyways, Middelburg invites you to take a leisurely stroll and explore the many sights. Highlights include the market square, the late Gothic town hall - one of the most beautiful buildings in the Netherlands - and the Abbey of Our Lady, founded in 1100. The Zeeuws Museum is also located here, where visitors can gain fascinating insights into the history of Zeeland. If you want to get up high, climb the 90 metre high abbey tower, the "Long Jan". Especially on sunny days, you can enjoy wonderful views of the Walcheren peninsula and its picturesque coastal landscapes.
The harbour town of Zierikzee was one of the richest trading towns in Zeeland in the Middle Ages and its glorious past can still be felt today. The historic town centre is home to over 500 well-preserved, listed buildings that form an impressive silhouette. Particularly worth seeing is the tower of St Lieven's Minster, the so-called "Fat Tower", which visitors can climb up 279 steps. Right next to the tower is the "New Church", built between 1835 and 1848. Also worth a visit are the Old and New Harbours, where numerous historic boats and ships are moored. The Maritime Museum offers an insight into the maritime history of this traditional city. During a visit, you should definitely try one of Zeeland's delicious specialities, such as the "Zeeuwse Bolus" (sweet pastry) or genuine Oosterschelde crayfish.
Zeeland is not the only place in the Netherlands that offers plenty of sea and sun. Another popular holiday destination is the province of Friesland, which is primarily known as a paradise for water sports enthusiasts, but in reality has much more to offer. A wonderful route for motorhome campers leads through the entire province and gives visitors a great insight into what makes this region so attractive.
