With its dense forests, Värmland is one of the most popular camping regions in Scandinavia. Although the province does not border the Baltic Sea, it almost has its own sea in the form of Sweden's largest lake, and most of the campsites in Värmland are located on the shores of Lake Vänern, where you can not only enjoy holidays and camping by the lake, but also numerous water sports such as fishing, rowing, surfing and swimming.
The campsites in Värmland are exceptionally quiet and idyllic. Surrounded by one of Sweden's most beautiful natural landscapes, the campsites are picturesque oases. Life in harmony with nature, which every camper appreciates, finds its perfection when camping in Värmland.
The wide clearings in the forests offer plenty of space so that caravans and motorhomes never have to be crowded together. In addition to the children's playgrounds, the green areas invite you to play ball and run around, and from the nearby boat and bathing jetties you can either row off or jump into the water. All campers looking for a Swedish picture-book idyll will be delighted with Värmland.
In Sweden, it is bright and warm for long periods in summer and dark and freezing cold for long periods in winter. Despite these contrasting conditions, many campsites in Värmland are also open in winter, as the weather when camping in Värmland is influenced by two different climate zones.
While Lake Vänern in the south of the region stores heat and is responsible for the rather mild climate, the north has a fresh mountain climate. Lake Vänern only freezes over in particularly cold winters, whereas in midsummer it is pleasant to swim in water temperatures of 20 degrees Celsius. The best time to visit for campers is from May to August, with July being the warmest with temperatures of up to 26 degrees Celsius.
