To travel to Svendborg by motorhome, you first need to head far north of Germany. Hamburg is a typical stopover. Here, those interested in culture can visit the museums in the UNESCO-protected Speicherstadt warehouse district. Party fans get their money's worth on the Reeperbahn and in St Pauli.
From Hamburg, it is still around 350 kilometres to Svendborg. Most travellers take the overland route via Schleswig-Holstein. At Flensburg you cross the border to the Jutland peninsula. If you are travelling with children, you can take a trip to the famous Legoland in Billund.
In Kolding and Fredericia, you cross the bridge over the Lille Bælt. You are then already on the island of Funen. It is about 90 kilometres to Svendborg in the south of the island. Alternatively, you can travel by ferry across the Fehmarnbelt. After the crossing, travellers first arrive on the island of Lolland. Between Tårs and Spodsbjerg, travellers board the boat again. Svendborg is then reached via a bridge.

From the harbour in Svendborg, you can take a sailing boat to the comparatively calm sailing area in the south of Funen. The conditions here are ideal for learning the basics of the sport. If you feel like it, you can even get your sailing licence. It is worth crossing over to the 52 kilometre long island of Langeland with its cliffs.
Sea kayaking is an experience for the whole family. Excursions between Vindebyøre and Valdemars Castle on Tåsinge are particularly popular. On the short trip you can admire ancient watermills and small fish farms, secluded beaches and coastal forests. Holidaymakers can also go fishing off South Funen in a rowing boat.
The famous Baltic Sea Coastal Cycle Route runs through Funen. In addition to this tour and its stages, it is also interesting to cycle around the island in the footsteps of the mysterious tightrope walker Hedvig Jensen. You can visit the places where her short life ended in a love drama, such as the Bregninges half-timbered houses and Valdemars Castle.
Denmark is characterised by its excellent fish cuisine. Fried plaice, smoked eel and halibut are among the classics from the north. For a snack in between meals, the Danes like to treat themselves to smørrebrød, the hearty slices of wholemeal bread topped with herring and egg yolk, for example. Labskaus is prepared somewhat differently than in Germany. Danish chefs use fresh pork instead of corned beef. In general, the country is known for its organic animal husbandry. Accordingly, roast pork with rind, potatoes and brown gravy is a real classic. The most famous restaurants with traditional cuisine in Svendborg include Svendborgsund in the harbour and Valdemars Slot with its charming vaulted cellar.
