Fréjus in south-east France is ideal for camping with children. You can take a dip in the sea as soon as you get up, before going on a bike tour inland or a trip to the water park. Camping on the beach is great fun in Fréjus thanks to the fine sandy coastline and varied water sports options. Culture vultures can discover Roman treasures in the old town, while nature lovers can set off on a hike.
When camping by the sea, holidaymakers feel at home on the sites in and around Fréjus. The crystal-clear water and fine sandy beach are always close by. Families prefer to choose accommodation close to the shore between Fréjus harbour and the Base Nature François Léotard nature and leisure park. There is no traffic there, so the little ones can run around carefree. There are also sections of beach where nude bathing is permitted.
The campsites offer pitches for motorhomes and caravans as well as bungalows for rent. The facilities at the campsites in Fréjus range from simple to luxurious, so there is something to suit every holidaymaker.
Holidaymakers choose different routes depending on where they are coming from in Germany. From the north and west, they either travel to Fréjus via Metz, Dijon, Lyon and Marseilles or Mulhouse, Beaune and Lyon. Those travelling from Berlin, for example, are more likely to take the 1410 km route via Lindau, Milan, Genoa and Nice. From Munich it is around 870 km via Nauders, St. Moritz, Monza, Savona and Nice to the destination. Campers from Hanover cover around 1450 km and from Bonn around 1130 km.
With these distances, breaks should be planned well in advance, especially for families with children. If only adults are on board, the journey can be made up to 1000 km without an overnight stop. If you are planning a longer break in France, you should spend it away from the motorways. There are numerous camping options in picturesque countryside near small villages or larger towns.
When organising your holiday, bear in mind the holiday periods. There is often a lot of traffic on the motorways during the high season. This can lead to delays, which should be taken into account so that campers have a relaxed start to the best time of the year.
The traditional harbour town of Fréjus boasts a fantastic location right by the sea on the Côte d'Azur as well as numerous sports and entertainment options. The hinterland is characterised by beautiful floodplain landscapes and the towering mountains of Esterel and the Maures Massif.
The two long sandy beaches of Fréjus are not just for splashing around. Various activities are on offer. A wild ride on a jet ski is great fun. You can go up to one nautical mile out into the bay. There is a launch pad on Esclamandes beach near Saint-Aygulf.
The same stretch of coast can also be used for kitesurfing, which is otherwise not permitted in the bay of Saint Tropez. There is also the opportunity to experience the shore area from a bird's eye view with a paraglider.
The various theme parks in Fréjus are a fun change of pace, and not just for families. One adrenaline rush follows the next on the slides at Aqualand. Younger guests splash around happily on age-appropriate water games, while parents relax on the quiet Lazyriver. In the Luna Park, rides such as the gigantic rollercoaster are the place to be.
On holiday in Fréjus, light but very tasty dishes are typically served. Fresh fish, seafood, lamb, sheep's and goat's cheese as well as a colourful variety of vegetables, fruit and aromatic herbs such as thyme, rosemary, sage and basil are used in the preparation. The French like to order wines from regional vineyards to accompany their meals.
If you want to eat classic Côte d'Azur dishes in the restaurants, you should order salade niçoise with tuna, anchovies, beans and boiled eggs or the fish soup bouillabaisse. The Pissaladière onion tart with anchovy sauce or stuffed courgette flowers are also delicious. How about a piece of Tourta de Blea, a sweet cake made from chard, pine nuts and sultanas, for dessert or with your coffee?
Guests can look forward to pleasant weather in Fréjus. The Mediterranean climate ensures warm and dry summers and mild winters. In July and August, the thermometer rises to 27 degrees Celsius, but only exceptionally exceeds 30 degrees. Between March and November, the temperature is usually above 15 degrees Celsius, making the spring and autumn months ideal for hiking, cycling and sightseeing. As early as April, you can sip a latte in the open air with a cosy 17 degrees Celsius and eight hours of sunshine. In winter, it rains around nine days a month, although the temperature rarely falls below 13 degrees Celsius.
