Ystad was the first stop for my husband and me in Sweden during our motorhome trip to the North Cape. The town developed around the Gråbrödraklostret, founded by Franciscan monks in 1267. More than 300 lovingly restored half-timbered houses line the old town. They now house boutiques, restaurants and apartments. The brick town church is the oldest preserved building.
My tip: Ystad is the home of Inspector Kurt Wallander. An app helps you follow the trail through the town and leads you to the filming locations of the popular Swedish crime series.
