I have visited Trier several times with my husband, both with and without a motorhome. Germany’s oldest city is full of history. The well-preserved Roman remains are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its landmark is the Porta Nigra, the best-preserved Roman city gate north of the Alps. From there, it’s not far to the Roman baths and to St. Peter’s Cathedral, the oldest church in Germany. In one of the cosy wine taverns nearby, we enjoyed the regional wine.
My tip: If you stroll through the small side streets around the main market square, you’ll discover hidden courtyards, unusual architecture and charming little shops.
