Located in the north-western part of Switzerland, the canton of Jura is an Eldorado for campers. Characterised by culturally rich towns, including Delémont, imposing castles such as the Château de Delémont and plenty of idyllic scenery, the region is the perfect destination for active guests. The campsites also cater for families with children.
Picturesquely situated in the north-west of Switzerland, the Jura is very popular with campers. The French-speaking canton is nestled in the Jura mountains and is a paradise for sports enthusiasts and nature lovers.
A large number of campsites in Jura are located in the heart of nature and therefore offer ideal conditions for active holidaymakers. Those seeking peace and quiet like to park their caravan on the sites in the remote Franches-Montagnes, in the hilly Ajoie or right next to the Doubs river and the regional nature park of the same name.
In the warmer months of the year, the densely wooded destination invites you to go horse riding and on extended hiking and cycling tours, for example on the Trans Swiss Trail. Winter sports enthusiasts can trudge through the white landscapes on snowshoes, ice skate or use the cross-country ski trails that criss-cross the local scenery.
The best time to go camping in Jura is between May and October, but the destination is popular all year round. This period is recommended for those who want to take advantage of the wide-ranging leisure programme. The temperatures are ideal for hiking or mountain biking, for example.
Even in summer, for example in July, the maximum temperatures are below 25 degrees Celsius. Nevertheless, holidaymakers enjoy an average of 8 hours of sunshine per day during this month.
Those travelling to the Republic and the canton of Jura for skiing can expect temperatures just below freezing. There is also an average of ten days of snowfall from December to March.
