The district of Coimbra in Portugal enchants with its varied nature and historic towns. Both camping by the sea and camping in the mountains are possible in the region. There are many idyllic campsites in the wooded and agricultural hinterland, while the coast is comparatively livelier. Here, the campsites impress with their wide range of leisure activities and their location just a few metres from the beach.
There are beautiful villages and towns both on the coast and in the hinterland of the Coimbra district in Portugal. When camping in the hills, motorhomes and caravans are parked between pines, pine trees and deciduous trees and campers can enjoy the views of wooded hills, old churches and villages.
Instead of diving into the water of the Atlantic or the outdoor pool, holidaymakers can hike off into the natural idyll or play tennis. In contrast, the campsites in the Coimbra district on the coast are livelier and sunnier. Thanks to the sandy soil of the sites, the few steps to the beach can be taken barefoot. Playgrounds and outdoor pools are also available as an alternative to sunbathing.
Camping in Coimbra is particularly popular with sun worshippers and beach holidaymakers in the summer months, when it gets really hot. Between June and September, daytime temperatures reach 25 degrees Celsius and above, so it only cools down slightly at night. These are ideal conditions for all campers who like it warm and enjoy sitting outside for long evenings. The water temperatures in the Atlantic also rise to a pleasant 18 degrees Celsius.
For outdoor sports enthusiasts and those interested in culture, camping in the Coimbra district is recommended in spring or autumn. Heavy rainfall occurs in winter, meaning that many campsites remain closed. Campers in the mountains should also bear in mind that the weather here differs from that on the coast and can easily change.
