First Camp Sjöstugan – Älmhult

I stayed at the alternative camping site at Ikea in Almut, and it was nice. There were electricity, water, and the option to dispose of wastewater. For anyone looking to shop at Ikea, this site is perfect. Everything was clean and new.

The place itself is very nice. Wi-Fi is great and the price is reasonable. Cleanliness is quite okay, considering that there is only one sanitary building for the entire site. Super large playground, shopping options are nearby. There is also a small shop on the site with rolls in the morning. All in all, the place was good.

How can you 'improve' such a good place so badly - with the takeover of First Camp, the showers were renovated, but are now cramped with always wet floors and have lost all Swedish charm. There is no real responsible contact person on site, everything seems aimed at profit maximization - every inch is occupied - while the toilets are only cleaned once a day. Until our arrival, we had not received an SMS with a PIN and could only check in more than an hour later after several phone calls to the hotline. SUPER service - and that at 6:00 PM - no one left on site! Unfortunately, it is no longer what it once was. Unnecessary and a shame.

If I could, I would give minus stars. We have known the place for many years. Since it was sold from private hands to First Camp in spring 2023, many things have worsened: usually no hot water in the showers, inadequate waste disposal, cashless payment only for small amounts like an ice cream. Payment is only in advance without refund if you leave the place earlier. Double charging if campers leave early and the pitch has already been paid for, and the same day the spot is reoccupied. Opaque pricing, there is no price list; to determine the price, you have to navigate through the entire booking process. The scenery of the place is very nice, but what First Camp does with it is just quick cash.

A very beautiful, well-kept campsite, run in a family-friendly manner. The campsite has direct water access with its own swimming area as well as a dog bathing area. Power connections are available directly at the pitch, although the distribution of the pitches is very arbitrary and confusing. The advantage is that there are still spaces available for new visitors. A television reception with a self-installed satellite dish is certainly possible, although we did not try it out. WiFi is available throughout the site. The washrooms and toilets are sufficiently available and are cleaned daily. Showers for 5 SEK/4 minutes are reasonable and completely sufficient. We only used the kitchen for washing up; a stove, microwave, and refrigerator are provided. The kitchen is always clean and in good condition. If you are looking for a nice campsite, even for several days, Sjöstugans Camping is a great choice. There are play opportunities for both young and old. The owners speak German, are very helpful, and always attentive to the well-being of guests. The campsite has turned out to be a hidden gem for German campers, as the visitor numbers show. Advance registration/booking is recommended.

Rather a note than a review. The campsite is no longer family-run, but was taken over by First Camp in spring 2023. Innovations: reduced pitches to 70, subdivision, online booking in advance, payment on site only by card. A review will follow at the end of the holiday.

The first assigned spot was so steep that even boulders couldn't create a height adjustment. The second one was just okay. The sanitary facilities have aged. But the reception was friendly and provided a remedy. In comparison to other places, it was definitely too expensive for us. .

A relatively small campsite, somewhat aged! Nice for children, many play opportunities! Campsites OK. Reception very friendly! As with all FirstCamp sites, a bit unkempt, sanitary facilities outdated, but OK! Not comparable with family-run campsites! It was fine for us! Located directly at the lake!
