The so-called "Riviera of Norway" is located in the south of the country on the North Sea coast and attracts countless guests as one of the most popular holiday regions. If you are looking for a mix of city life, holiday feeling right by the sea and nature, the province is the right place for you. When camping in Aust-Agder, guests can look forward to numerous campsites along the coast that welcome families with children with open arms.

Special features of camping in Aust-Agder

Located on the southern coast of Norway, the province offers great conditions for campers. Many of the campsites in Aust-Agder are located directly on the coast, while others are set in the midst of idyllic nature - perfect for those seeking peace and quiet.

The destination is characterised by picturesque harbour towns and dreamy villages, including Risor, one of the best-preserved wooden house settlements in Europe. Lakes and high mountain faces await active holidaymakers on an excursion to Byglandsfjorden, a lake in Setesdal.

Keen hikers and cyclists can explore the well-developed and well-signposted network of trails on their own. Guided kayak trips, rafting and climbing tours are also very popular.

Best time to visit

The province has a continental climate, which results in precipitation-rich weather conditions. Those planning to camp in Aust-Agder from May to September benefit from the best weather all year round.

With average daily highs of around 11 degrees Celsius, the Fylke, as the province of Aust-Agder is called in Norwegian, is one of the warmest destinations in the country. With water temperatures of 0 degrees Celsius or less, campers can safely leave their swimsuits in the wardrobe.

Although guests can expect at least eight days of rain at any time of year, the likelihood of heavy rainfall is highest between October and January. It rains the most in December with around 14 rainy days per month.
