First Camp Ekerum – Öland

A large campground with sites under tall trees and on a not entirely level meadow outdoors… super fast check-in if you have reserved in advance… dog owners are also asked to head to the unmaintained beach sections at the edge of the campground… no fresh rolls available in the shop in the morning.

Huge campsite right by the sea. Very friendly staff. Express check-in via online reservation is great. Dream location - right by the sea. Everything imaginable for children's entertainment. A bit expensive (57€/night with camper van) and too few sanitary facilities that are not always very clean. We were there in high season and it was a nightmare. Would go there again.

Generous, quiet pitches, the beach had a lot of climbing equipment etc. for children and you can walk very long in shallow water. The showers were modern but could be cleaner. There is a pool, and the shop carries a large assortment. Good site.

This place is a good spot, nice (not exactly flat) camping areas with shade from tall trees. Sanitary facilities were very clean and were cleaned several times a day since it was midsummer. The beach is great for small children, a bit challenging for swimmers, since you have to walk a bit to get to the jetty. Staff was helpful and friendly. Making excursions by bike is somewhat tiring, the hill to the street is steep, we didn't have e-bikes. The hiking trail next to or at the campsite is great, 90 minutes to the next town, beautiful thick oaks. We would go there.

Great location with very good facilities and activities. We had a nice pitch in the second row with a short walk to the reception and the beach. The family shower was available, but couldn't be opened with the key card. Unfortunately, the washing machine had trouble starting, and the caretakers were initially grumpy and less helpful. Little communication, not even in English. Overall, we got the impression that the Swedes prefer to keep to themselves during the holidays. Nevertheless, it was a very nice stay (two nights), which is why we rated it 4 stars.

In the pre-season (early June), the campsite is quite relaxed. The pitches are generously sized and mostly flat. The sanitary facilities are, as expected, in top shape. There is a small beach at the bay, a pool, and a shop (which was, however, still closed). Due to the central location on Öland, the site is ideal for sightseeing or cycling tours. However, when the site is full in mid-summer, I would rather not be there.
