The campground offers sunny and shady spots in two sizes. The spots are somewhat uneven because ruts were driven in after wet weather. The sanitary facilities are old, but everything works and was clean. The chemical toilet can be emptied in a marked toilet in the rear sanitary facility. By reserving online we had a very favorable rate for a large spot, which, however, had to be stubbornly demanded at checkout.

Good campsite. Price was fine.
Very good8

Many trees, thus also very shady. Sanitary facilities are aging! Showers only one temperature possible. Everything was clean. In the morning at 06:00, the whole sanitary facility was cleaned. Location flawless. Even the military airfield with the noise was not bad! Or rather, very interesting. I will probably come again.

Sanitary facilities poor - price ratio appropriate

On the weekend, a disco is clearly audible until 11 PM. The sanitary facilities were defective, unkempt, and partly dirty. The shop had good baked goods and regional products at fair prices. The swimming pool is only usable with a swimming cap, which can be purchased at the pool. No beautiful surroundings, but after a 10-minute drive, you can reach some nice hiking routes. The friendliness of the staff seems quite forced. The pitches are clean. Electricity and water are available. There is a partially fenced run for dogs. We stayed on-site for two nights and paid 40€ for two people with the ADAC Campcard (One night = 18€ pitch + 2€ tax (1€ per person)). We would not return to this site.

Great tree population, but everything is very outdated

We were rather shocked by the sanitary facilities. Very old and everything very basic. The shop is tiny and we couldn't even buy milk. The pool and the play and sports facilities are also quite outdated. On the other hand, the tree population is beautiful and there's a good price-performance ratio in the restaurant. It's a shame that more isn't being made of it...

So far so good

So far everything is available. Shopping options, showers, toilets, shady parking spaces, restaurants, etc., etc. Unfortunately, the noise levels are extreme. We parked about 50m behind the entrance and thought the highway was passing us by, so many vehicles are coming in and out. The facilities seem a bit outdated, all from the early 80s. €53 for one night with 2 adults, one child, and a camper is quite a statement. Nevertheless, the ladies at the reception were very friendly.

Very old and bad toilet

Pitches okay on grass but toilet conditions not acceptable. Showers not really warm from time to time even could. No chemical WC existing, only camper service in the open air where you mix grey and black water. No rules about rest periods. People talking very loud even after midnight.

Terrible sanitary facilities, otherwise okay

Kilian
The sanitary facilities (2 units) are both an absolute disgrace. Dirt, very old, not thought out, partially not lockable - really terrible and not suitable for people who rely on them. I would rather avoid the place. The washing room (old garden shed with washing machines) has no proper floor - it collapsed when someone walked on it. The pitches themselves: sufficiently large, bordered by trees. Mowing the lawn would be a recommendation, as it is partially 20cm high, which is not particularly pleasant. COVID and little activity aside - that should be maintained as soon as I have guests. The restaurant in front is good and has very good prices. We got a pizza and didn't even pay 8€ for a normal size. The shop is also fine, and the entire staff is friendly.

We were at this campsite 3 years ago and fled after 1 night. The campsite is located by a dirty river that also smells of diesel fumes. The sanitary facilities are terrible, washing options are only outside, there are no cubicles, not separated for men and women, the showers are cramped, old, and draughty. There is no proper sanitary house like at other campsites. The pitches and the entire campsite are rather dark and make an uninviting impression. There was nothing for children, not even a pool, or it was well hidden. I hope the campsite has improved significantly, otherwise it isn't even worth 1 point.

More info about Camping River
With the river bend to the east and the Ligurian coast to the west, Camping River is perfect for a seaside holiday. The site is characterised by its spaciousness and extensive leisure facilities.
Spacious campsite with its own jetties
Camping River has its own moorings for larger and smaller boats along the banks of the Magra. From here, holidaymakers can quickly reach the Ligurian coast and embark on exciting trips on the Mediterranean. Another of the resort's highlights is the huge open-air pool surrounded by sun loungers and massage jets. The large pool is perfect for swimming, while the flat, separate area is ideal for toddlers and babies. The whirlpool provides relaxation for adults. On sunny summer days, excursions to the Ligurian coast and the Mediterranean bays there are recommended.
First-class facilities and lots of sports options in the surrounding area
The campsite is located in the south of Liguria, just a few kilometres from the border with Tuscany. The nearest town of Ameglia is within easy walking distance, while the larger town of La Spezia is 10 kilometres to the west. As the site has a restaurant and a snack bar as well as a grocery shop, holidaymakers do not need to leave Camping River to do their shopping. Dogs are welcome on the site at any time of year. Mobile homes, tents and bungalows are available to rent as alternatives to pitches. The sanitary cabins are in good condition. Many of them are also accessible for campers with limited mobility. Fast Wi-Fi and facilities for washing and drying clothes are also available. Camping River rents out bicycles to guests, organises diving courses and runs a varied sports programme. Pony riding in the immediate neighbourhood is very popular. Children can play with their peers in the open air in the children's playground. For excursions in the region, we recommend a city tour of La Spezia, whose landmarks include the cathedral and the Castello San Giorgio. By car, holidaymakers are also just over an hour away from Pisa, where they can visit the iconic Leaning Tower of the Tuscan city.
