In the middle of the majestic Pyrenees mountains, the 467.6 km² Andorra is nestled between France and Spain. Excellent hiking opportunities in the mountains, extensive forest areas and romantic villages give this small country - quite rightly - a particularly idyllic image. There are excellent opportunities for nature camping and camping in the mountains all year round at strategically located campsites in Andorra.
Surprisingly, the tiny principality of Andorra is home to a wealth of attractions and special places that are extremely worthwhile excursion destinations. The thermal spa Centre Termolúdic Caldea and the Parc Natural de la Vall de Sorteny national park are just two of the many interesting places in Andorra.
The wellness centre and thermal spa Centre Termolúdic Caldea in the capital Andorra la Vella provides absolute relaxation. With a floor area of 30,000 m² and a height of up to 80 m at its highest point, the thermal baths are undisputedly Europe's largest spa, offering beauty and wellness treatments such as massages, peelings, sulphur baths, whirlpools, saunas, salt caves and steam baths, as well as entertainment for the whole family in a separate section. Various restaurants provide a variety of culinary delights and a large selection of shopping facilities leaves nothing to be desired.
In the north of Andorra, the Sorteny Nature Park spreads out in all its splendour over 1,080 hectares across the mountain passes on the French border. A botanical paradise, the park is home to over 800 species of wild plants, including numerous protected and rare wildflowers. The rugged landscape with barren rocks, rivers, a small lake and evergreen fir trees is particularly enjoyable after a refreshment stop at the local mountain restaurant. The park is open in both summer and winter.
The best time to go camping in Andorra depends entirely on the visitor. As a mountainous landlocked country with no access to the sea, Andorra lies between France and Spain, the wonderful natural landscape is ideal for both hiking and skiing and the right climate ensures fresh winters and pleasant summers all year round. Whatever the season, the towns and mountain villages exude a very special charm.
The ski season runs from November to March, while in the valleys it is low season and there are fewer visitors. The period from April to October is generally considered to be the best time to visit and there are numerous outdoor activities on offer, from hiking to mountain biking.
