The most beautiful campsites in the district of Vila Real in the north of Portugal enchant with views of the water and yet are not located by the sea. The crystal-clear waters of the reservoirs and mountain lakes in the Vila Real district invite you to camp by the lake. The nature parks on the high plateau on the border with Spain delight mountaineers, hikers and dog owners.

Special features of camping in the Vila Real district

Simple country life, huge lakes and unspoilt mountains - a true natural paradise awaits campers in the north of Portugal. The campsites in the Vila Real district blend harmoniously into their natural surroundings and offer water sports enthusiasts, hikers, mountain bikers and dog owners relaxing and active holidays at the same time.

The locations of the pitches are not only varied, but also unique: on the lakeshore, on terraced slopes with views of the vast plains or between deciduous and pine trees. The dense forests on the mountain plateau on the border with Spain offer plenty of cooling even in the hot summer months. The picturesque villages with their historic buildings are often not far away and will delight the history and culture fans among campers.

Best time to visit

The district of Vila Real is located on a high plateau in the interior of Portugal on the border with Spain. Although the sun shines for several hours a day from as early as March, camping in the Vila Real district does not get as hot as in the rest of the country. Even in the summer months, the temperatures tend to be moderate.

The maximum temperatures are between 23 and 25°C and are ideal for all outdoor sports enthusiasts. Due to the altitude, it is rather cool at night. A warm sleeping bag is recommended. There is little rainfall in summer. The months of June, July and August, with up to eleven hours of sunshine a day, are particularly attractive for camping in the district of Vila Real.
