In Norway, the province of Troms awaits enthusiastic campers with a variety of places to stay. The province is not only perfect for those who want to observe the most spectacular natural phenomenon, but also for guests who want to share special holiday moments in nature with their four-legged friends and family. Motorhome and caravan drivers will find numerous well-equipped pitches in the snow-covered mountains.

Special features of camping in Troms

The aurora borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, attracts numerous visitors to the campsites in Troms every year. Due to its location in the far north of the country, the region is ideal for discovering this phenomenon. Many campsites offer the service of informing their guests by text message or messenger as soon as the Northern Lights dance across the starry sky.

Many campsites tend to be located outside of towns and are therefore embedded in the dreamy mountain landscapes of Norway. If you enjoy hiking and being outdoors in the fresh air, as well as taking part in unusual activities such as romantic dog sledding, then camping in Troms is the perfect choice.

Best time to visit

The province of Troms has two types of climate: continental and tundra. The ideal time for a camping holiday in Troms is from June to September, when visitors can look forward to little rainfall and pleasant temperatures of up to 18 degrees Celsius.

In autumn and winter, it rains and snows quite a lot. To witness the magical dance in the sky, experts recommend travelling to Troms between October and March. With a bit of luck, the spectacle can also be observed in other months, for example in September or April. However, no matter what time visitors camp, flexibility and patience are recommended when aurora spotting.
