Located in the heart of Norway, the Oppland region offers guests a warm welcome. Caravanners and motorhome drivers can look forward to dreamlike scenery characterised by deep blue waters, dense forests and dotted with idyllic farms. Oppland is the perfect place for anyone who enjoys the great outdoors, sports and unique activities. In addition, numerous campsites offer ideal conditions for families with children

Special features of camping in Oppland

The province of Oppland lies roughly in the centre of the country and is home to vast lakes, mighty rivers and some of the highest mountains in the north. In summer, hikers can stroll across vast, flowering meadows or trudge along the snow-covered trails of the Jotunenheim and Rondane mountains in winter.

When camping in Oppland, guests will find mostly flat landscapes with picturesque lakes, which are wonderful to explore in the cold season on board a husky-drawn sledge. Action-loving campers can enjoy activities such as skiing, rafting, caving, kayaking and horse riding. The province's greatest treasures are the large lakes Mjosa, Randsfjord and Sperillen, where most of the campsites are located.

Best time to visit

The ideal time to visit Oppland camping is between May and September. The Norwegian province has a continental climate. In general, visitors should be prepared for precipitation in every month - rain in summer and snow in winter. During the peak season in July and August, daytime temperatures of up to 24 degrees Celsius are not uncommon.

Due to the summer holidays in Europe, this is when most caravanners and motorhome drivers are to be found on the campsites and in Oppland's national parks. Those travelling to the region in the cold season from November to March can expect snowfall on more than ten days, providing perfect conditions for winter sports enthusiasts.
