I’ve been to Helsinki multiple times in the summertime and I totally fell in love with it. It is home to beautiful modern architecture and Nordic design as well as absolutely stunning nature no matter where you go. Located on the gulf of Finland, it spreads out onto more than 300 islands, most of which you can visit by taking a ferry or even walking over one of the many bridges. Even though it’s a capital city, it’s super walkable - for longer distances, public transport is easy to use and reliable, and there are many cheap rental bikes on the street. Check out cool bars and restaurants in Kallio, enjoy the seaview from Kaivopuisto park or take the ferry to visit UNESCO World Heritage Suomenlinna.
My tip: Take a walk to Mustikkamaa in the east of the city - it’s a beautiful little island with a clean public beach where you can take a dip into the Baltic. The path will take you through a magical forest with the ground covered in wild blueberry bushes! Feel free to pick and eat them, as Finland is officially tapeworm-free. Fun fact: The island’s name, Mustikkamaa, translates to “blueberry island”.
