If you like camping, you are in good hands here

Schlappe Seppel

July 2021

14 days in August 2021. The Grobreitenbach campsite was an INTERCAMPING before the reunification, which was reactivated by a new operator only 3 years ago. Not to be confused with the WOMO parking space "Fuchsbau," which is just a few meters before it. Our experiences (now the 4th time) with this campsite are consistently positive. A lot has already changed. A campsite that is still camping, with basic rules but a lot of freedom and not a thousand rules and prohibitions. The warm welcome from the campsite manager and the team is unmatched. Everyone here is very friendly, nice, and makes a lot of things possible. The area offers generous space under high oaks, where there are no designated plots through hedges or anything else, essentially free choice of site. What you should bring for leveling or ramp blocks, as the terrain has various inclines. The prices are completely reasonable, you would pay more Euros elsewhere for comparable standards. Campers should go elsewhere if they expect 4-star hotel amenities. The social block with sanitary facilities and showers is clean and usable. However, you should always have 2 tokens for showering. Cabins can also be rented, and more are being renovated gradually. For young couples in love, the small newly built witch house with crooked windows and doors is recommended. Swimming pool just around the corner with direct access from the campsite. Direct connection to the bike path and many hiking opportunities. As a mountain biker away from the bike paths, however, one should bring some stamina or have an e-bike (cheating :-)) with power. No one has to starve or go thirsty here. Shopping opportunities (daily necessities) are about 1km away. Rolls for breakfast can be pre-ordered from the campsite manager. A very clear recommendation, whether for a short weekend or an extended vacation with child and dog. Warm greetings from Schlappe-Seppel from Aschaffenburg.

small but nice in the middle of the Thuringian Forest

August 2021

Großbreitenbach is a small, cozy, and family-friendly campsite connected to the Rennsteig cycle path. The site is located right in the middle of the Thuringian Forest, with shopping facilities less than 5 minutes away. Dogs are welcome there and can bark as they please. The sanitary facilities and showers are in excellent condition. The staff responds promptly to suggestions and is very friendly. For the summer months, the outdoor pool is directly connected to the site. This is not our first time here and it won't be our last. Apart from the campsite, there is an extra area for motorhomes. Best regards from the Hühners from SÖM.

Good Starting Point for Tours

Very good8

Albratros

June 2018

the location is good for (motorcycle) tours in Thuringia; in the summer, the nearby beautiful and affordable outdoor swimming pool is great for cooling off; sanitary facilities are excellent and well-maintained, as they can only be accessed with a key; the camping area was also well-kept; some of the nearby huts are very run down, but since there is already work being done on others, that may change.

Actually a super nice campsite, but where has the condition and the friendly reception from last year gone? The maintenance of the outdoor facilities is absolutely necessary. Piles of leaves upon piles of leaves and no grass in sight anymore. A children's trampoline right in the middle - who is supposed to use this next year or is it going to become the compost? Strange, some long-term campers have nice plots while we have not seen the campers. Everyone surely knows long-term campers, where you are not sure if the site is only being kept alive by an unaware standing order and the last visit is not known to the neighbors. If possible, one should rather move to the new parking space right next door. It's a shame, but a visit to other campsite operators or a change would certainly bring new momentum and that would be wonderful for the site and the next campers. The abandoned bungalow settlement next door shows live what happens without paying guests and responsibility. The site, the location, and the nice people on site really do not deserve that.
