The morning begins quietly with the smell of coffee, children heading out to collect fresh bread and nature close at hand. We are Dorthe and René, and since buying Horsens City Camping in 2008, the campsite has been our home, workplace and greatest passion. Together with our family and team, we work to create a place where every guest feels welcome. What we love most is seeing the campsite full of life, children playing, families enjoying time together, and guests returning home with happy memories and a desire to come back.
3- Is there a local product guests take home as a souvenir?
A handmade brush, broom or kitchen item from Blindes Arbejde makes for a distinctive and meaningful souvenir. The products are made by blind and visually impaired employees and are designed to be used. It is a small piece of local craftsmanship that combines quality with a special story.
4- Is there anything else you want to tell us?
The most important thing we would like to say is that Horsens City Camping needs to be experienced. Photos and descriptions can show the fjord, the pool and the facilities, but they cannot fully capture the atmosphere. You feel it in the guests’ smiles, the children’s play, the personal contact and the peaceful moments by the water. Combined with nature, tranquillity and memorable experiences, this is what makes camping so special to us.
5- Is there a place where children make new friends especially easily?
The bouncy pillow and the rabbits are natural meeting places where children from many different countries quickly connect. They do not need to speak the same language to jump, laugh, be curious and play together. At the rabbit enclosure, a shared love of animals helps children bond, while the experience makes it easy to find new holiday friends across languages, ages and nationalities.
6- Is there a situation where you repeatedly realize: "this is exactly why we do what we do"?

8- What is the most spectacular accommodation you have on your site?
Our biggest wow experience and most exclusive accommodation is a modern double cabin with a private outdoor hot tub. The combination of a true camping atmosphere, high comfort and warm water beneath the open sky creates a holiday experience out of the ordinary. Inside, guests will find a modern cabin with a kitchen, bathroom, several sleeping areas and room for the whole family.

What is most typical of our campsite is its relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Photos can show the fjord, the pool and the facilities, but they cannot fully capture the feeling of calm, connection and being on holiday. Birdsong in the morning, activity around the pool and the smell of barbecues in the evening create a special rhythm. It is the combination of nature, community and tranquillity that you only truly experience once you are here.
10- What makes your site different and stand out from other campsites nearby?
We stand out by bringing together views of the fjord, a child-friendly beach, a heated covered pool and a wide range of activities in one place. Children especially love the rabbits, the pool and the play areas, while adults enjoy the natural surroundings, peaceful atmosphere and excellent facilities. The combination of different areas, modern facilities and personal service makes it possible to create a holiday tailored to each family.
11- What should guests not miss—even if it’s not mentioned in any travel guide?
Set aside an evening without excursions or fixed plans. Barbecue at your pitch, let the children continue to play, and take a stroll along the beach or out on the jetty as day slowly turns into evening. We had booked a Comfort spot with a view of the water. When we arrived, the spot was completely underwater with 3 cm, making it impossible to set up the bus tent. As an alternative, there was only a spot in the 'quiet' area, very uneven, with almost no grass. After the first short rain shower, everything here was also underwater. Mud alert! Unfortunately, the paths are higher than the pitches everywhere, so no water drains away. The grass hasn't been cut in a long time, and the little clover was very high. No trace of peace - every morning from 8 o'clock, boards were being sawn 20 meters away, styrofoam was being cut, and hammers were being used. Even the complaints of the Danish campers did not lead to any changes. The sanitary facilities are regularly cleaned, everything is top-notch. The swimming pool is small and more suitable for children up to 6 years old. The staff is very friendly. Does not deserve a 4-star rating! No recommendation!

We were at the site for a few days at the end of May. The site has a large number of permanent campers who are spread throughout the facility. All the pitches are very well maintained.
