The signage, as well as the road to the campsite, should have already been a warning for us (the neglected impression was confirmed). Upon arrival, there was something like 'rush hour' and the person at the reception was slightly irritated, however, despite the rain, we were safely guided to our assigned pitch. However, this was so slanted that we could not possibly park there, and therefore wanted to change the pitch, which we also managed. The site seems to be old, there are many long-term campers, and a diffuse waste concept. On the other hand, it stretches seemingly endlessly along the banks of the Sauer. Only two sanitation buildings are provided for that. By the way, toilet paper must be brought along if needed, which will certainly surprise some and has never happened to me before. But the river and the area are beautiful.

An aging camping site. The sanitary facilities are old and wrinkled, the pitches are very small with too much slope. The worst part is the manager, rude, unfriendly, and completely overwhelmed by her tasks. I can only advise against this campsite, we will certainly never go back.

The campsite is very spacious, the sanitation facilities were dirty, and apart from the roll service, there is no shop. The nearest shopping opportunity is far away.

Unfortunately, a total of only 1 star. The pool and the nature are great. However, many other impressions and experiences unfortunately lead to deductions. The photo gallery reflects an impression, partly from long-gone days, which from my point of view is no longer accurate! Most of the pitches (especially section B) directly by the river are - although booked by us as a caravan site - NOT suitable for caravans or motorhomes, as the slope is far too steep - neither positioned lengthwise nor crosswise. Wedgeing the wheels or supports is far from enough. Unless you have a shovel with you and also dig the wheels in. We were not the only ones; we saw several others who had the same experience. We then had to move to the second row where there was still some space. By the way, no indication of this at check-in - only that you could potentially get a different vacant spot upon request if you wanted. At check-in, there was also no question about whether you have toilet paper with you - because there is NONE in the sanitary areas! There are also NO towels or paper dispensers! You always have to bring everything yourself. There is only ONE soap dispenser for all sinks! Also NO holders, hooks, or shelving options inside the toilet cabins, at least not for the men! If you don’t want to hold your jacket, towel, and toilet paper permanently in one hand while putting on and taking off your pants, you have to be very creative... When we asked the owner if this could not be changed: "Why? You can just leave your jacket at the caravan, and there are shelves outside the cabins". She even referred to your own toilet paper when asked... Almost all toilet seats are also old and wobbly. In the washing cabins, the mirrors for men are not above the sink, but mounted on the side - impractical for wet razors. Only 4 shower stalls in the washhouse at the reception for such a large area (visible on the site plan) also hints at what to expect for the main season, as permanent campers confirm. Especially since the showers are also used by pool users. By the way, the coin machines for the showers are located outside the shower stalls, but only 1 coin is possible at a time! Even a small children's carousel in a central location is not maintained - the concrete sticks out far from the surrounding sand, all 4 seats are made of rotten wood! This is a synonym for the maintenance of the site! Water taps on the site are mostly lonely sporadically sticking out of the ground. There are trash bins for dog waste - but no bag dispensers etc. The many reviews from the past confirm that these annoying little things are known but not resolved! The cleanliness in the sanitary facilities and on the site during our stay was mostly acceptable. Trash placed at the edge is collected daily at 09:00 by a tractor directly at the pitch. The alternative offered to bring the trash yourself to a barn near the reception is surely not something anyone wants to take up - there are a lot of birds with corresponding droppings at the bins and on the ground! And waste separation would be futile anyway since there is no yellow bin available there. The road directly on the other side of the river is PERMANENTLY very loud and particularly annoying in the morning during rush hour. Regarding the snack bar, pub, store indicated on the site plan: previously available - now permanently closed, as confirmed by permanent campers! Only a morning bread roll service at the reception and about 10 basic items on a shelf as well as ice in a chest are available at the reception. Only the beautiful nature in the vicinity and the low price in the off-season compensate a bit for the daily reoccurring annoyances. For us, this means: despite the great location, a one-time experience...

We had a very nice stay at this campground. The site is very spacious, child- and dog-friendly. Right by the water (Sauer River), you can enjoy great canoeing tours. The reception and service are quite friendly. We also took advantage of the good bread delivery service. The outdoor pool with the super slide is exceptional for a campground. The surrounding area offers great opportunities for cycling, hiking, and sightseeing. We will come back.

We were guests at the campsite in the summer. The swimming pool is unique with its three super water slides. The provision of rolls in the morning and snacks in the evening was good. We particularly enjoyed the canoe tour. The wonderful hikes in the adjacent "Green Hell" and the "Mullerthal Region" are also highly recommended.

The Altschmiede campsite near Bollendorf in Rhineland-Palatinate scores particularly highly with its extensive range of leisure activities. With its excellent location in the middle of the Südeifel Nature Park, nothing stands in the way of a relaxing and active holiday close to nature.
There are 250 pitches available for holidaymakers on the 5-hectare campsite, which runs directly along the picturesque banks of the River Sauer. Electricity connections, modern sanitary facilities and barbecue and cooking facilities make for a particularly comfortable stay. In addition, the size of the pitches, each measuring around 100 square metres, ensures peace and privacy. The campsite's young guests can let off steam in the playground or take part in the varied entertainment programme. The large swimming facility on the campsite is particularly popular with young and old alike. With two large swimming pools and three water slides, summer water fun is on offer here. The campsite shop provides further refreshments and snacks. Of course, the location directly on the river is also very popular with campers. A leisurely trip in a canoe, which can be hired out at the campsite if required, is a great way to enjoy the surrounding nature. There are also regular guided walks in the surrounding nature park, for example along the 12-kilometre hiking trail to Green Hell. The area is also ideal for a bike tour or climbing, so nature lovers will get their money's worth here. After an active day in the great outdoors, you can treat yourself to culinary delights in the campsite restaurant.
