We were recently at the campground and had three days to spare, and we wanted to check out the Lüneburg Heath/Soltau, etc. The initial contact and booking were super easy and friendly. Upon arriving, it turned out that we had to enter from the other side of the campsite, which meant pushing the entire setup backward through the full restaurant parking lot, cheering, and then parking at the bus stop for temporary parking. The check-in was straightforward, but you could tell that the operator was very much in a hurry and stressed, or just uninterested?! We don't know... Our site was in the upper part, accessed via an access road past horse paddocks. The sites are huge, about 120-160m2, with water, wastewater, electricity, and a communal satellite dish. Surrounding it are mobile homes and permanent campers, yet it is still very quiet. Site: Large area, many sites are closely packed/tents next to windows. A small river in the middle with two crossings. Fruits on the trees are very tasty ;) Paths are unpaved/packed gravel. At night it is pitch dark, and the journey is the destination. Each person can imagine what the destination might be... Restroom: Outdated. Partly clean (the cleaning lady is really trying but cannot do much due to the conditions. To get to the shower room, you have to walk through the toilets. Both have seen much better days. Weeds are already growing in the joints. Open, so the women can hear what the men are doing and vice versa. Drains in the shower and on the hallway, when showering both flood. Only shower booths with old and filthy curtains. Showers with doors or curtains. One larger shower, the rest very small. Warm water available via a roof system; if the water runs out, it gets cold for a while... Amenities: The Wi-Fi is virtually non-existent. It connects to the internet, but nothing happens at all. We then understood in the evening why so many people were standing on the parking lot by the inn; there was Wi-Fi/cellular reception thanks to the inn’s internal service. No telephone and mobile data at the site and also not in the small town. You have to go to Munster, Müden, or Fassberg for that. A lot is promised that cannot be delivered. In conversations with the mobile home owners and permanent campers, it quickly became clear that the lessor seems to have no great interest in expanding or upgrading the available technology, even though it has existed for two years and just needs to be finished. Rolls can be ordered and are ready for pick-up in the morning. Good, solid bakery rolls. A small but fine shop, very expensive. Restaurant: Only with reservation, the inn is plain, food was okay but have eaten much better in a village inn. Surroundings: Recommended excursions to Soltau, Heide Park, Outlet, Fassberg, Munster, etc., or extensive hiking/biking tours. All in all, we will probably only use the site as a stopover and otherwise switch to a larger, more reputable site. Addendum: According to mobile home owners and permanent campers, the site manager/lessor/head seems to have lost interest and is looking for a successor, or the farm owner is already seeking a different lessor... It remains to be seen how this beautiful island will develop further... Several campers, including freelancers, have already left earlier because the promises were not kept.

👍 Beautiful surroundings, good and fun tips at the reception. Pitch/Rental accommodation: Spacious, well-maintained site. 👎 There is no coverage for phone/internet. Even making calls is problematic.

Pitch

👍 Close to the sanitary building, sufficiently large pitch. Pitch/Rental Accommodation: Size was sufficient, electricity and water were easily accessible, nice grass. 👎 Taller hedges or better privacy from neighbors, better reception opening times (especially at checkout times), set up insect traps (there were a lot of mosquitoes, flies, wasps, and ants on the site), offer animation or programs on the site. Pitch/Rental Accommodation: Too low hedges or insufficient privacy, the electricity meter was confusing (it was located at the outlet and not at the fuse box which is directly on the pitch).

We stayed with our caravan for 3 nights at Örtzewinkel. We were assigned a very well-kept grass pitch with water outflow, drainage, and electricity, freshly mowed! Very friendly check-in. Sanitary facilities clean and tidy. Offers with a roll service and a small shop, great. The available Wi-Fi was very slow during our stay. D-Net only has 3G, so internet is almost nonexistent here. However, there are beautiful bike paths.
