Campsite Intro

In the east of France, in the historic village of Neubreisach, the Onlycamp Vauban campsite welcomes its guests. Only a few kilometres separate the campsite from the Rhine, where the border with Germany runs. Holidaymakers can camp on shady pitches surrounded by bushes and trees on this quiet site. Alternatively, various rental accommodation options are available. Neubreisach is characterised by its chessboard-shaped streets surrounded by high fortress walls and a star-shaped moat. Popular excursion destinations include Colmar with its colourful half-timbered houses and Mulhouse with its automobile and railway museums.

The quiet, park-like facility with spacious pitches is an ideal starting point for visiting the fortified city of Neuf-Brisach.

👎 The surrounding area has many interesting places, such as Colmar, Strasbourg, and Freiburg. The pitch or rental accommodation was pretty good in terms of space. 👎 The sanitary facilities and the lighting at night near the toilet building at the end of the campsite really need improvement. The showers in the building at the front of the campsite should be set to a warmer temperature. It would also be good to have more operational showers spread throughout the campsite. Additionally, more water points should be established across the campsite. The electrical outlets need to be spread out more; otherwise, too long cables are required. The entrance to the campsite should convey a much cleaner impression. Regarding the pitch or rental accommodation: the lighting is poor, and there are too few toilets in the farthest toilet building. The showers there did not work or were not accessible. A friendly staff member made an effort to fix the drainage of three sinks with zip ties, but it was actually poor facility management. The personnel seem underqualified for the job or there are too few good solutions available.

👍 + Good location, within walking distance of the fortified town of Neuf-Brisach and a bike ride away from Breisach am Rhein. + plenty of shelter and privacy from hedges and trees + nice swimming pool Campsite/Rental accommodation: Sheltered pitch between hedges and fruit trees. I made some delicious apple sauce from the fallen apples. 👎 Despite reviews stating that the sanitary facilities should be improved, there were still some shortcomings: - The sanitary facilities are a bit outdated. For a campsite, they were relatively clean, but toilet paper and soap could be replenished more often during the day. - Some toilets and washrooms lacked lighting - In some showers with wooden doors, there were significant gaps between the boards where others could peek through. My daughter and I decided to walk a bit further and shower in the building behind the reception, where we had sufficient privacy. - Lack of warm water, I caught a cold from the lukewarm shower in the draft. Pros

We stayed here for one night and arrived two days earlier than expected, but it wasn't a problem. Standplaats/Huuraccommodatie: We could pick our own spot on the campsite. (One vehicle with roof tent and two small 1-person tents). There were some spots which were very private and others with no borders.

Cons

Toilet buildings need a serious patch-up and they need extra lighting. Only one of the three blocks had working showers, although they did have good hot water and the water pressure was good too. Spaces were decent but make sure you take at least 20m of cable for electricity. Dogs (and cats!) are welcome.

More infos about Onlycamp Vauban

Not far from the Rhine, where the border between France and Germany runs, lies the Onlycamp Vauban campsite in Neubreisach (French: Neuf-Brisach). If you want to get away from it all in the great outdoors, this is the place to relax.

Camping like in a garden in eastern France

Surrounded by nature, holidaymakers at the Onlycamp Vauban campsite camp between colourful flower meadows, trees and bushes on shady pitches. Alternatively, there are also chalets and fortified tent accommodation, of which the "Lonna" tents on wooden frames give the feeling of a tree house. Children can play in the playground and young and old can compete in boules matches on the pétanque court. In high season, fresh bread and croissants can be ordered at reception for breakfast and small snacks such as pizzas and tarts can be purchased at the snack bar. There is also a selection of regional products in the small, on-site supermarket.

Discover French history, nature and culture

Neubreisach was built at the beginning of the 18th century by the fortress builder Prestre de Vauban, who gave the campsite its name. He built the town in the ideal form of a fortified town with a chessboard-shaped street layout protected by high fortress walls. Outside the walls, star-shaped moats were dug, in which large animal statues can be admired today. The campsite is situated in a particularly quiet location, just outside the fortress walls. There are many other places and towns in the surrounding area that holidaymakers should not miss: One of the popular excursion destinations is Colmar with its historic city centre, where colourful half-timbered houses characterise the cityscape. The fishing district here is also known as "La Petite Venise" ("Little Venice"). Mulhouse is another city with a beautiful city centre that holidaymakers should definitely visit. Anyone interested in vintage cars and railways should not miss the museums here.
