Camping Municipal d' Épernay

The campsite has spacious pitches. However, the condition of the campsite no longer matches the photos, and it now looks a bit neglected.

Conveniently located near the city, well-planned parking spaces. Very friendly staff at the reception. We had made a last-minute reservation by phone just in case, which turned out to be necessary because upon our arrival the sign at the entrance said "full." Thus, we had our spot... Well-modernized and maintained sanitary facilities, but tight with full occupancy (end of August); queues formed in the mornings and evenings in front of the toilets and showers. Reservation also required in the low season (end of August 2024), easily done by phone.

Upon arrival at the end of August: "Full". We were glad to have made a reservation (without fees or deposit). A standard municipal campground. Not unkempt, but not really well maintained either. Everything you need is there. Generous plots, surrounded by hedges. Some with views of the Marne. We paid about 25 EUR/N (2 persons, trailer, electricity 10 A). Free wifi, but very slow. The sanitary facilities are okay, but too small for the morning rush. The small, very simple outdoor restaurant by the river offers edible food at prices inappropriate for the ambiance. For the first time in France, there was no bread on the menu, the offered rump steak consisted of trimmed pieces. However, we still enjoyed it. A few kilometers from the center of the champagne city Épernay. The "Avenue de Champagne" is a must-see. About 25 km to Reims.

clean simple showers and toilets

The site is beautifully laid out. The parcels are adequate. The sanitation facilities are simple but clean. One doesn't want to stay here for more than 2-3 nights. There is a constant coming and going, creating an unpleasant restlessness. The paths are paved, and as a result, many drive too fast. Overall, a good transit site.

As a camping site, the place is quite OK. Although the sanitary facilities are claimed to be cleaned 3 times a day?! it still gives off a rather unkempt impression. There is no paper available in the toilets!
