Actually, this municipal square is called "Camping du Lac d'Estaing" and is wonderfully located in a valley by the lake of the same name at an altitude of 1200 meters. A hiking trail leads directly into the national park. The atmosphere is very relaxed and quiet, and you are even allowed to have campfires. Dogs are welcome and roam freely (contrary to the sign at the entrance), which does not seem to disturb anyone, as long as they are well-behaved. There is a baked goods service for breakfast. Right next to the campsite, there is a restaurant with a souvenir shop. Children can also ride Shetland ponies accompanied by an adult through a course in the forest and valley, where herds of cows and horses graze freely. The site is partially slightly divided, partially you stand completely freely, sometimes in sunnier spots, sometimes shady under tall coniferous trees. The sanitary facilities are good. However, there is no mobile reception up here - that is the price of seclusion. We (2 people, toddler, camper van) stayed here for three days for only €39! A highlight of our trip!
