The location and the connections (bus) are very good. You are also right by the gondola. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, a road runs directly above and the traffic noise is quite significant. There are additional costs for the sauna and the infinity pool. The sanitary facilities are rather outdated (partially mold present).

Great view of Merano from the front row
Very good8

We were at the campground belonging to the smart hotel. The reception was friendly. We were given a lot of explanations and all our questions were answered. There was informational material available. Roll service on pre-order. The location and the view, if you are in the front row, is simply great. View of Merano and the surrounding mountains. Not so great were the sanitary facilities belonging to the campground. There were two of them. The lower facility is the one we used. Here, the water from the showers runs into the middle of the hallway towards the toilets and washroom. As a result, it is unfortunately regularly dirty there. Very pleasant is the possibility to use the wellness offerings of the hotel, which we also did. The restaurant was top-notch, a clear recommendation. The bus stops were easily accessible by foot. In front of the hotel stands a small stand. There one could buy typical South Tyrolean specialties (but only in the evening) when the operator came. We would gladly come back; we really enjoyed it.

We have been traveling with the caravan for 40 years, but I have never experienced such an unfriendly staff member at the reception. He should be assigned to cleaning the toilets instead. The toilets have aged (not bad) but are unfortunately very unkempt (dirty). The rolls can only be ordered via Wi-Fi; LAN does not work. Again, the unfriendly staff comes and shakes their head. If I hadn't booked, I would have left again; unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place due to its location and appearance on the internet.

Located far above Merano. No bike paths to the city. Very cramped parking spaces. No connection for satellite TV as announced.

We were at Camping Hermitage for two weeks in August. Very nice facility with clean sanitary areas. Great location for leisure activities like biking and hiking. Very fast public transport connection to Merano, Schenna, and Hafling. Would love to return anytime!

Good campsite but needs improvement

The location is great. You have a nice view of the valley and the place as well as the restrooms are clean. Great pool (also for babies). The bus stop is right in front of the door (line 1 and 225) and runs every 20 minutes. The grounds are well maintained. Massages were great and the price is justified. Nevertheless, not everything is perfect. The signage to the massages was not recognizable. Also, we unfortunately were not informed that the spa can be used before the massages. There are power outages twice a day on the site. When we talked to the technical manager about it, we were informed that the problem is known, but they do not know how to fix it. This is not so nice as the electronics of the vehicles and vehicle equipment suffer greatly and can even be damaged. Also, in some places, outlet covers are missing, etc. These are small things that add up. When we ordered rolls and croissants, they unfortunately were not fresh. Very unfortunate. In summary, this is a nice campsite where there are still a few screws to be tightened. Currently, the price is not justified, but if everything is fixed, we would like to come back.

We made a stop here for 2 nights on our way south. We have nothing to complain about, very clean and well-maintained sanitary facilities, very nice staff, and a good starting point to explore Merano on foot. Great view from the terrace-like pitches. We felt very comfortable and will come back 😉

More info about Camping Hermitage
The quiet and child-friendly Camping Hermitage campsite above Merano/Meran offers a variety of activities for the whole family. It is particularly suitable for active holidaymakers who want to explore the surrounding mountain landscapes on hikes or bike tours.
Camping Hermitage - family-friendly camping in the mountains
Camping Hermitage is situated on a terraced hillside above the spa town of Merano/Meran in South Tyrol (Italy), surrounded by nature and offering stunning views of the town and the mountain landscape. Divided by deciduous trees, the spacious site has pitches with water, waste water and electricity connections throughout. Some pitches also have a television connection. WLAN use is also included. Those who value privacy can book a private bathroom with shower, washbasin, WC and bidet. Various leisure facilities around the campsite provide variety at any time of year. The free outdoor pool with a large sunbathing lawn invites you to refresh yourself in the warm summer months. If the weather doesn't play ball, guests can use the indoor pool at the neighbouring hotel for a small fee, as well as the Finnish sauna. A children's playground, table tennis tables, a children's pool and a playroom make the campsite a favourite destination for families. Dogs are also very welcome on the site. An Italian restaurant and the associated pizzeria, which also offers its specialities to take away, cater for your physical well-being. Half board, breakfast or dinner can be booked for the entire duration of your stay. And if you place your order at reception in the evening, fresh bread rolls, milk and other groceries are delivered for breakfast.
Quiet retreat for active holidaymakers
As the starting point for various hiking and cycling trails, the campsite is particularly suitable for active holidaymakers. An e-bike hire service provides the necessary equipment. Just 300 metres away is the valley station of a cable car that leads to the Merano 2000 recreation area. Here, at an altitude of 2000 metres, there is a toboggan run and a petting zoo. Also within walking distance is Trauttmansdorff Castle with its picturesque gardens, which offer colourful insights into native and exotic plant worlds in around 80 themed gardens. The nearby bus stop is also within easy reach of the centre of Merano, which is around 3.5 km away. In the town centre, visitors can visit sights such as the parish church of St. Nicholas and the Stone Footbridge, as well as other restaurants and shopping facilities. Back at the campsite, guests can relax in a peaceful atmosphere and enjoy the marvellous view with family or friends.
