Campsite Intro

Etno kuća pod Okićem conveys traditional village life in the northern Croatian county of Zagreb. The rustic mountain farm in the village of Klake is located in the middle of a wooded hilly landscape and conveys the authentic atmosphere of a rural family household with its pretty old wooden houses, exhibition rooms and workshops. There is a small campsite for caravans and motorhomes on the farm grounds. The ruins of the medieval Okić Castle sit enthroned on a pointed hill within sight. There are also a variety of cycling and hiking trails around the Etno kuća pod Okićem, which is open all year round. Tours through the Žumberak-Samoborsko Gorje Nature Park are particularly scenic. The charming town of Samobor and the cultural metropolis of Zagreb, 26 kilometres from the campsite, are recommended for a city stroll.

We stayed here when we were on a trip to Hungary. Initially, we wanted to stay for one night but since this place was so beautiful, we extended. The campground is located in a rural setting which is close to what we think original Croatia must have looked like. Surrounded by forest and on a hill, the owner created a campground that is well worth a visit if you want to go to Zagreb or simply enjoy a rural lifestyle. It’s peaceful tranquillity makes it perfect to calm down and escape the ever-hectic business of the world. The campground is small yet meticulously organized. There are six large pitches uphill (for tents only, each is around 80-100sqm, campers won’t make it up there) and four 100sqm pitches for campers/trailers on the lower portion of the campground. This gives one privacy and a sense of exclusivity as it is not as packed trailer by trailer as other campgrounds. Each pitch comes with water and electricity. The Pitch surface is mostly lawn that is well-maintained. The main building in the middle of the campground accommodates the reception, the sanitary facilities as well as an apartment that is for rent year-round. A large fridge with some groceries and beverages is available for those who want to cater themselves. Simply take what you want and pay the money into the wooden box provided. There are numerous hikes around the campground, you can go up the nearby hill with an ancient castle on it or explore the beauty of nature. We enjoyed the nice details the owner has placed all over the campground: an outside shower in a barrel, shady places under the trees for relaxing, a small museum in a building adjacent to the campground with an old wine press and historic interior. Everything shows the love and effort the owner has put into this place. Marijan, the host is very friendly, accommodating and supportive, one of the nicest we met during our trip of over 8000km. He will gladly answer questions and share information. Zagreb is easily reachable by car or Uber (which we did, 150kn (20€) one way for four persons is more than reasonable for a 35min drive). All in all, this is one of the best and nicest campgrounds we stayed at while travelling through 10 different European countries. The last word for people with larger campers or caravans. As you approach the campground from Konšćica DON’T! make a right turn into the campground through the gate. You won’t make it as your car/trailer will get stuck with the rear in the ground due to the steepness. There is a safer way by going some 200m straight, making a U-turn and returning from the opposite side and then making a left into the campground.
