Altmühlsee-Camping Herzog

The package of friendliness did not arrive here, with only one helper in the shop being very friendly. The prices are okay, but charging for garbage separately is excessive. The roads in the area are quite loud, and while some pitches are large, they are very dirty with a mix of sand and gravel. When hammering in pegs, you encounter thick stones after just a few centimeters. The Altmühl Lake is more than 400 m away and not directly reachable. The nearest shop is also about 500 m away in a straight line, but considerably further on foot. We will definitely not return!!

We were here for the second time. The baths are nice and clean. The pizzeria and the shop offer fair prices and quality. It takes about 8 minutes to walk to the lake. A major criticism is the inflexible and rather grumpy operators. Customer orientation and friendliness are nonexistent. Too bad, but we won’t come back here.

Good: Location, amenities, sanitation, cleanliness. Good pizzeria. Fair prices and billing. There is a need for improvement in the friendliness of the owners and staff, except for the groundskeeper. The saleswoman at the small market is the highlight. If you disturb her while she is smoking in front of the store because you want to buy something, it's better to just leave. I then preferred to drive to the Lidl 5 minutes away. The water pressure of the showers needs to be checked. Some only produce a trickle. Also here, as in many other places, there are a lot of barking dogs. But you can live with that. We will certainly visit this campsite again.

Great location by the Altmühlsee, well-designed site with really good, well-maintained, and thoughtfully planned sanitary facilities. But service at the reception? Unacceptable. A request to move our camper to get WiFi was denied despite many available spots. We will not return here.

Friendly staff, good for wheelchair users. Wi-Fi could be better, only good near the reception. Pizzeria is good and everything is also available to take away.

Very good and clean sanitary facilities, nicely designed area, good bread roll service. Well suited for cycling. Negative: no Wi-Fi reception, audible train traffic at night.

I rarely rate a place because an assessment or rating is always a personal individual one. Whether a pizza tastes good is a matter of taste, whether a sanitary facility is clean is a matter of opinion, but friendliness towards the guest/customer is fundamental, in my view. Such a constantly poor attitude of the operators can be justified by nothing. It starts on the phone and continues during check-in. A face like 7 days of rain, and later in the week when making a small request, one is brushed off like a nuisance. But many people surely see it differently… In any case, I am not the only one who experienced this; more often than not, you can find such assessments online.
