In the heart of Lesser Poland lies Krakow, one of the most beautiful cities in the country, surrounded by the picturesque forests of the Tatra Mountains, which attract numerous hikers, mountaineers and mountain bikers. Camping in the mountains or by the lake is ideal for nature-loving caravan and motorhome travellers. Anyone wishing to visit Krakow's medieval centre while camping in Małopolska will find comfortable campsites just outside the city gates.

Special features of camping in Małopolska

The campsites in Małopolska are characterised by their exceptionally attractive locations. Even the campsites on the outskirts of Krakow, a city well worth visiting, are not only convenient in terms of transport, but also offer beautiful views of the vast landscape. Some of these campsites are connected to a hotel or leisure complex so that guests can use wellness facilities such as saunas or swimming pools.

Others are idyllically situated in an apple orchard or on the edge of a village with a view of a baroque church. As a rule, the campsites in Małopolska are of a manageable size, so they are neither full nor crowded. On the border with Slovakia, motorhome and caravan travellers can look forward not only to mountain panoramas of the High Tatras, but also to fishing ponds and bathing lakes with crystal-clear water.

Best time to visit

The climate in Lesser Poland largely corresponds to the weather conditions in Germany. In the summer months, the average daily temperature is 23 degrees Celsius, while at night it cools down to around 13 degrees Celsius. These weather conditions are ideal for all outdoor sports enthusiasts among campers. The Tatra Mountains on the border with Slovakia are a popular winter sports region, but most campsites close during the cold season.

Although it rains relatively little in the High Tatras, campers should be aware that it can get very cold early in the year due to the altitude of the mountains. There are only a few places where you can spend the winter. The operating times generally range from the beginning of April to the beginning of October. The best time to go camping in Małopolska is from May to September.
